Stray dogs show up at funeral, pay their respects to woman who used to feed them

A funeral for a woman in Mexico took an unexpected turn when several stray dogs, that she used to feed, showed up to pay their respects, according to a report.
Margarita Suarez was an animal lover her entire life. She died in early March of an illness.
Throughout her life, Suarez had always fed stray dogs and cats that would show up to her home. She would also carry a bag of food around if she left the house, just in case she ran into any stray animals to feed, according to Misiones Online.
When the dogs began to appear at the funeral home, family members were stunned. Staff of the funeral home said that they had never seen the dogs before.
The dogs were then allowed to lie peacefully on the floor near Suarez's coffin.
The Daily Mail reports on the day of Suarez's funeral, the dogs even formed a procession behind the hearse.
Eventually, the dogs left after Suarez's body was being prepared for cremation.
Suarez's daughter's post on Facebook was translated below:
"It's very painful to tell you that my mother has passed away, thanks to everyone who prayed for her health..I share photos of the saddest day of my life, only because something marvelous happened that I want to share, my mother was an animal lover, she couldn't come across any without giving them a little bit of food. Upon arrival at her wake, out of nowhere a group of dogs came into the salon and stayed there all night as if on guard, this morning they left and couldn't be found anywhere, but one hour before we brought my mom out the dogs came back and grouped around as if to say goodbye. I swear by God that it was beautiful, marvelous.. Rest in peace beautiful mother, I'll love you for all of eternity."

One would never find a cat being that loving and loyal. I think that there are more cat lovers among women than men.

I love dogs Jim, thanks for sharing that story. I do believe that dogs and cats are much deeper than many give them credit for.

I love them equally. Men generally like cats less only because they underestimate them and don't take the time to understand them. There is nothing quite like the bond a human can form with a dog or a cat and I pity those humans who just can't relate.

That reminded me of this past story. http://www.petmd.com/news/strange-b...og_frequent_churchgoer_since_owner_died-29842

ROME - Since his owner died over two months ago, Tommy the dog has not missed a single mass in the small church in southern Italy where his mistress's funeral was held, Italian media said last month.

When the bells of the Santa Maria Assunta church begin to toll each afternoon in San Donaci near Brindisi, the 12-year-old German Shepherd sets off from the village to get himself a front row seat next to the altar, Il Messaggero newspaper said.

His owner, who was known in local dialect as "Maria tu lu campu" -- "Maria of the fields" -- had lived alone with Tommy and three other rescue dogs, who used to follow her faithfully on her daily rounds and have now been adopted by the village.

After following his mistress's coffin up to the church on the day of her funeral, Tommy has returned daily, sitting quietly throughout masses, baptisms and funerals, according to local priest Donato Panna, who now wouldn't do without him.

I Have 4 cats here now and have had cats all my life. I respect and play with dogs all the time as long as someone else owns them like all my adult kids.
I simply don't want or like to pick up droppings that dogs leave everywhere. A dog is too much responsibility to care for....... IMO

My husband and I have shared our home with both dogs and cats over the years, he was always very fond of our feline family members, our Loki is loved equally by both of us. :love_heart:

Disagree, I was in the hospital for 5 days last year and the 4 cats drove my daughters and son crazy with their constant meowing at my bed room door, she let them in but had to remove them from the room because of the tearing of the bed sheets.
When I came home everything was back to normal.......go figure..

I have another story like that to share. A few years ago, a man in Africa was moved to save 'rogue' elephants from being shot so he built a huge enclosure that was elephant proof and arranged to have groups that were slated to be killed brought there instead. I believe that he lived inside the enclosure with them for many months until their rage had settled down and the groups were eventually allowed to leave it and live wild once again. I think he saved two herds this way

Then there came a day when Lawrence Anthony died and within hours of his death, long lines of wild elephants began showing up outside his compound and there they loitered for two days and then they disappeared back into the bush. They honoured the man who saved their lives.

I thought it was an amzing story, and brought tears to my eyes. I do believe the dogs had their network going on and passed some kind of word amongst themselves. They have ways of communcating that we can't begin to fathom.

I absolutely agree.

PS. Speaking of "networking"--- years ago, i ran across a pack of cats--yes, cats! :)

They hung around in a group of 5 or 6. They were mostly pet cats that would be let out at night. None were related, and they came from throughout the neighborhood. You'd always see them at about the same time when it grew full dark, and they'd go to a house and wait for the cat to live there to come out, then be on their way.

I saw them do this many an evening, and frequently, when I'd go to let our own cat out, they'd be sitting very politely on the porch, waiting for our kitty to come join their adventures. :)

I love dogs, wish I owned one, I wanted to keep seeing the dog after one of my exes and I broke up, I loved that dog. :D I could fall for a guy who owned a german shepherd breed , just to be close to his dog. j/k
