Streaming TV on the Internet

I don't have services such as Hulu or Netflix, but I often view TV shows on my computer....the picture/sound is great, and there is only a fraction of the commercials that appear on TV....and if I miss a good show, I can always look at it at my convenience. My favorites are some of the shows that appear on the History Channel.

A good example is the recent 6 hour showing of a series called "Washington"....3, 2 hour shows detailing the life of George Washington. I am a history buff, and I learned far more about Washington, and that time in our nation's history from this show than I ever remember learning in school. If you have traditional TV service, and fairly fast internet speed, you might enjoy some of this type of viewing.

I cut that darn cable over 16 years ago & never ever want it back. Don't like commercials or those silly shows that are geared for people with no life. However, I did buy a Roku & have never looked back. Used to watch Acorn TV (British) for over 4 years but have recently switched to BritBox. A lot of great shows with no advertising & subtitles. We also watch Hoopla & Kanopy which allows 5 shows/movies/month & this is free via our library. Great shows there too. "Call The Midwife" is now on Kanopy. Can't understand why people have cable but some say it's because of the sports. OK, each to their own! As for news, I prefer my computer because I can look at the titles & skip all those horrible stories that I don't want to see where on the TV they got you & you are forced to watch the good, the bad but mostly the ugly!

I stream for free on watchseries .. but, you must have adblock and other blockers to use it safely.
Been using it for years. I watch episodes on my widescreen computer. I also use Hoopla and Kanopy for free, like Packerjohn.

Kanopy and Hoopla are there two great services that no one knows about. They also offer ebooks and audiobooks for those who are not interested in streaming movies and all you need is a library card.

For all of those who do stream, I suggest you check out Just Watch. There is a website and phone app for it and what it does is tell you what TV show or movie is streaming on what service. Just type in a search and it will show you all the results.

Ha ha! I called my son and told him if I ever die suddenly, please put the cause of death as "Direct T.V.". One day, I actually got off the phone with them, got in my vehicle and screamed! I'm probably the only person in town "streaming" and I LOVE IT! All I pay is high speed internet! I love the old b & w movies from the 30's that I get on U-tube! I get every movie that was ever made, every t.v. show ever filmed and regular T.V. It's amazing!

I haven't had a T.V. in years. I, too, watch everything via internet. As mentioned, Hoopla and Kanopy are great. Plus, I can get tons of videos from our library as well. Am currently catching up on the BBC series, Vera.

Yes as soon as our contract is up we are turning it off forever....

Do you have a Roku or Amazon Firestick for your TV?? Do you have WiFi in the house??I guess that you also view YouTube on your computer.

No Roku, or Amazon for our TV. Our local rural electrical Co-Op strung fiber optics through our area about 3 years ago, and we get All of our utilities from them....electric power, landline phone, 250 channels of TV, and 100MB Internet. WiFi is a $4/month option, but I have no devices which need WiFi. I've never tried YouTube, but I do use UTube to look up how to do/fix something I haven't done before. Through our co-op, I can stream virtually any TV show that appears on one of our TV channels.

I watch less and less tv these days. The quality of the programmes has deteriorated so much, and there are too many that feature the public. There are documentaries on some very interesting subjects, mainly on the History channel, but why do they insist on drowning out the dialogue with 'music'. It's so unnecessary. I've lost count of the times I've switched off because I couldn't hear what was being said.

I do watch oldies on UKTV....but I don't like watching on the internet because you are tracked.

Even though I've probably got my first at least Roku player 10 years ago, I didn't cut cable until about 14 months ago. There were so many streaming options with Hulu and Netflix, then Amazon Prime which were shared for awhile between family members. My husband bought me an Mbox which is an Android box. For awhile I tried to use the Kodi app but it was confusing and the last upgrade wouldn't load on the box. My husband's friend did another upgrade with a different system and I now get lots of programming better than if I used an antenna. Antennas don't work here because of the multitude of tall buildings surrounding us.

About 18 months ago, I subscribed to Philo for $16 a month (it's $20 for new subscribers). It has 55 channels and offers both live and on demand programming. I mostly subscribed because it has all the HGTV shows I love on demand, as well as live. I've yet to take advantage of the live programming. Philo can be watched on tablets, computer (via their website) and using Roku . I never installed it on my phone, so don't know about that. I was able to get another free month of Netflix and I'll keep it for two extra months to finish my watchlist. Then I'll get it again when the new season of Netflix shows start. I have Amazon (my least favorite streaming service) because it was a perk included with my cell phone plan upgrade and Disney+ because it was a freebie when I switched to Verizon Fios. I canceled Hulu a while back but see in my email that they are offering me another free trial, which I will take advantage of. So much T.V. so little time.

We had Pansat satellite years ago.... EVERY channel.... 2 dishes both American and Canadian Sats.... 1000s of channels... DVD recorded 100s of movies....When they broke system code we went back to just over the air TV... Had Broad Band internet/Phone that was to slow to stream video most the time. When we went to Smart phones the net was faster and dumped the land line. The unlimited cost is less than the land line and a satellite service. So now its OTA about 30 channels, Vizios "Watch Free" that came with the TV and Netflix with Amazon Prime.
