Stuck Freighter in Suez Canal Could Create More TP shortages.

*sighs* they can't cut the damn thing outta there?

this is what we get for having all our crap shipped from overseas.

Says a lot for "clearing your pipes" LOL.

Maybe then our unemployment rate in the US will drop. Frankly I think they need to bring the jobs back home.
I agree with you about bringing back jobs. Too many countries, Sweden included have farmed out industry and manufacture to low cost countries around the globe. Consumer prices stay the same but corporate profits increase. Not trying to be political, just my views on how vulnerable we are

Corporations and the almighty dollar. Some day that money isn't gonna be of any use to them. Once they're head hits the casket pillow it will all be for naught.

Oh, no ...not another toilet paper shortage!

It's amazing to me just how vulnerable and dependent we are when one ship can disrupt the lives of people around the world.

I'm afraid that someday it won't be an accident.

My thoughts exactly.... what a fragile world we live in

I don't understand why they don't bring in a large
tanker that won't be prey to a side wind, then join
the anchor of the stuck ship and the one from the
tanker, then let the tanker back out and pull it free.

That of course will not be allowed because the tugs
in for the salvage money, but they should do a deal
with a large ship which has much more powerful
engines than a tug, probably 4 or 6 of them

Mike.

For Sure! If I were "king", I would offer these corporations a tax break if they brought their manufacturing back to the U.S. Conversely, I would add a substantial "Tariff" to any goods they manufacture overseas, and import for sale here. With our shrinking Middle Class, due primarily to offshore production, we are edging closer to some serious problems.

The rumor is that the stuck freighter is causing a shortage of air. Take your deep breaths now before you won't be able to. This message is brought to you by the oh so healthy internet rumor factory, always ready to entertain. o_O

I have been through the Suez Channel three times and it is always a tight squeeze for large ships. The first time I went through in 1964 the banks were littered with shattered weapons and tanks from an early war, but it was not blocked.

On my second and third trips through (1976 & 1977) and after the last of the Arab - Israelis wars, the Egyptians decided that it would be to their advantage to deliberately sink ships in the channel. I saw the remnants of the hulls when I passed we passed through heading South. They had to cut those ships up to get them lifted out. Sinking these ships did not help either side during the battle.

But none of those ships were as big as this baby or a laden down with cargo. The US Navy has the good sense to never try sending a Carrier through although Destroyers and Cruiser make the trip routinely.

I don't know how long it will take to get this cleared out. From the overhead shots, it looks like it is really wedged in. I also don't have a clue as to whether or not our big choppers could lift those big containers off. We shall just have to see how this plays out.

LOL, conserve your toilet paper.

The last administration did offer corporations, that had moved overseas, a tax break
and many corporations came back to the US which boosted our GNP (gross nat'l product) significantly.
I don't know if it's changed any since this administration.

Well actually we will continue to have toilet paper, that stuck ship is destined to Europe. So they might end up with a TP shortage.

I know its naughty but I can't help laughing every time I see the pictures of that ship!

In the bottom of the Suez canal, there are a whole bunch of fiber optic cables that run to several other countries. If they are not careful, they could break some of these cables when they are trying to move the ship, at least that is what I have been reading.
According to the news, this could totally affect worldwide communications if the cables are broken, and the cable companies are very concerned about what is going to happen.

Another interesting report, is that this cargo ship is one that has been known to be used for human trafficking, and this might explain why we have such a buildup of both our military and Russian ships closing off both ends of the canal.

Don't tell China that. They would love nothing more than for worldwide communications to be affected...placing them closer to worldwide domination. I don't mean to alarm anyone. That won't happen in our lifetime.

That was the track we were on up into last November if you remember.

The 1,300 foot long ship is stuck in a 1,000 ft. wide area. An average of 50 ships per day pass thru there.
