Stuck Freighter in Suez Canal Could Create More TP shortages.

According to the latest reports this morning the ship has been pulled free and is floating again. Before the canal can open again for traffic it will be towed to a wider part of the canal and inspected for damage. Hopefully things will start moving again soon

Don't tell China that. They would love nothing more than for worldwide communications to be affected...placing them closer to worldwide domination. I don't mean to alarm anyone. That won't happen in our lifetime.

Yup, instead of a traffic jam at the Suez, there will now be days/weeks of ships waiting for a slot at the ports to unload. However, they should get most of the ships unloaded before people run out of TP.

I'm not dreadfully worried about a shortage of TP. Almost all TP that's consumed in Sweden is produced in Sweden from Swedish pulp. Though on a personal level in our household only my GF uses TP

That's quite possible for Europe, but I wonder if drugs destined for the USA from India would be shipped in that direction, Suez, Mediterranean and Atlantic? Wouldn't a trans Pacific route be more logical?

They say it's just as much about the raw materials and not just the final product. It was the pulp or lack of to manufacture that was the big issue.

The Suez Canal has been blocked before. It was blocked for years after the Six-Day War in 1967. Ships are rerouted around the Cape of Good Hope and life goes on.

Ironically, when we were a family of eight (everyone at home), I seemed to be the only one in the house that not only understood the concept of an empty toilet paper roll, I was also the only one in the house that recognized that the roll was empty, and most surprising of all, the only one in the house that knew how to change it.

The crew will probably go swimming in the lake while they wait.

Every time we dropped anchor in the Bitter Lake the crew always had a "swim call" as long as we had a Gunners Mate or Marine sniper to take out any sharks that might show up. We also lowered the lifeboats and everyone who wanted a cold beer could get two of them before having to come back aboard. It always seemed a bit sad that we had all that cool beer locked up safe and that we either had to wait for a port call and a ballgame, or drink our two beers in a lifeboat in the Bitter Lake.

All together, I have had six cold beers while floating around in a lifeboat in shark infested waters. LOL, That is the Navy for you.

After several days trying to dislodge the Ever Given cargo ship, which had veered off course and embedded itself in the side of the canal, the salvage team pinned their hopes on this week’s full moon, when, beginning Sunday, water levels were set to rise a foot-and-a-half higher than normal high tides. That would make it easier to pull the 1,300-foot vessel out from the side of the canal without unloading a large number of the 18,000 or so containers it was carrying.
