Study: Women Prefer Men Without Cats

'Cat men' seen as 'less masculine,' researchers say

Single men who are hoping to land a girlfriend may want to keep images of their cats out of their dating profile, or so suggests a new study. Colorado State University researchers showed photos of two men—posed with and without a cat—to hundreds of women and found that when the man's feline companion was in the picture, they were viewed "as less masculine; more neurotic, agreeable, and open; and less dateable," CNN reports.

The only women who think cat men are less masculine are morons I wouldn't get involved with, anyway.
I actually met one woman with a similar trait many years ago. A friend set me up with her. After spending a few minutes with her over coffee, I realized she was an empty-headed meringue....like most women who put men in categories - "If he likes this, he must be....."
When my friend asked her how our date went, she said, "Well....I like real men. If he was a real man, he would have really gone after me & gotten me in the sack like most men I date."
I replied, "Well, she didn't give me a price list, so I didn't know how much she charged."

I think men who like cats are far more interesting than those who hate them. Though every cat has a different personality, they are so much more complex than dogs. Cats don't automatically warm up to everyone, they have to be won over. Many cats are highly intelligent. They can have a good sense of humor and seem to do things to make you laugh.

If a man can appreciate these traits in an animal, he's a keeper.

i figure if a cat likes a man then he must be a good one.

I'm allergic to cats. So yeah.
I'm a bit allergic to dogs and cats, but like both, (maybe dogs slightly have the edge?), so it suits me best if they're happy to live outdoors.🐕🐈.

Pets on the bed can cause me a problem too, pet hair getting up your nose and the like. If the researchers have done their jobs well, then I guess having a cat in your picture must have an influence of some kind, (perhaps the women can't focus on anything but the cat, and a dog by your side might look more macho?).

Animals know far more than we give them credit for. Two examples:
When I got married 38 years ago, my ex wife had a Siamese cat named "Sam." She got the cat when she met her first husband 12 years previous. My ex was surprised at how affectionate Sam was to me - immediately, when he wasn't nearly as affectionate to her first husband, even though they were married for 10 years. I didn't tell her that animals can sense the difference between someone who can "Take or Leave" them vs. someone who loves them.
Once, I was sitting on the floor in our bedroom & my ex was sitting on the bed with Sam. I jokingly said, "If I wanted the cat next to me, all I'd have to do is call him & he'll leave you in a second."
She said, "No, he won't; I've had him for 10 years; he's only known you for a few months."
I said, "Sam, come here." He jumped off the bed, snuggled next to me on the floor & rolled over on his back. My wife was really MAD!!

Before I got married, I had a Collie. I had a friend who had a selfish streak in him. My Collie never liked him; whenever he pet him, he'd walk away.
Once my friend came over & I was sitting on my front porch with my Collie. As a joke, my friend said, "Now that the dog is trapped between you & the wall, I'm going to pet him & he'll have no choice but to let me pet him, he won't be able to walk away."
I said, "It's not a good idea to force yourself on a dog who doesn't like you."
My friend started to pet him & he thought it was funny that the dog couldn't walk away. What happened next was something I still laugh at today - 45 years later. The dog stood up & PEED ON MY FRIEND'S SHOE, then he squeezed by both of us while continuing to pee, leaving an "S" shaped pee trail about 10 feet long.....an exclamation point after expressing his opinion!!

My friend started cussing up a storm while he hosed off his shoe.

Cats are small , fury critters. Let's face it, nobody is making movies about a bunch of cats, who are sucked up in a tornado, and then unleashed to purr on the citizenry. I think the study would have the same results, if you had a teddy bear in the pic , rather than a cat.

I can only think of one guy I knew long ago who very much disliked cats. He referred to them as "independent little bastards." He said the way he got his roommate's cat to stop jumping on the countertop was he took the cat and chucked it across the room and it hit the wall. I guess I should've realized from that that he was not a nice person.

Cats are smarter than dogs. I love dogs but they are kind of dumb compared to cats. Why do dogs go bananas when you ride by them on a bike? It doesn't bother a cat. They seem to know they can't drive a car or ride a bike 🦘🐼🐼even if they could catch it?

There is no such thing as a "dumb" animal. What happens is people don't understand why an animal behaves a certain way, so they put a label on it - usually a label that makes them feel superior.
A quote from Mark Twain: "It is just like man's vanity and impertinence to call an animal dumb because it is dumb to his dull perceptions."
