Successful launch of rocket to rescue stranded astronauts on space station

Not a great day for Boing. I hope they have learned their lesson and will do better in the future. Thankfully, NASA did not listen to Boing when it suggested giving them all the money and letting only Boing develop a new manned spacecraft. As it is Boing was awarded one billion dollars more than SpaceX. What did that buy us?

I had read that Boeing is developing the new Starliner spacecraft designed for transporting astronauts to and from the ISS. I also read that Boeing already ran the bill up to over $5 billion. NASA paid $4.5 billion and Boeing is eating the rest.

I am guessing that when it's all said and done, Boeing will have lost a lot more $$ than they have anticipated with the Starliner project. I doubt if anyone would disagree that Boeing should consider reorganizing their company. I used to invest a lot in Boeing, but sold out in early 2020. They were getting into hot water then thanks to the 737-MAX.

Boeing is hanging on thanks to their military contracts. The company had some pretty big losses and have incurred a lot of debt. At one time, it was announced that Boeing was considering dividing the company into two parts. One would be commercial aviation and one would be military and NASA or jets and missiles. I don't know what happened to that idea.

Included on the replacement crew are members from Japan and Russia. Their stay is only supposed to be 6 months. Hoped they packed extra socks.

The one that took them there was also a successful launch, unfortunately
it was not thought to be good enough to bring them home again, they
now have accumulated, 9 months salary in their bank.

Hopefully it will be OK to bring them home.

Mike.

Finally. When I was discharged from the Air Force back in the 50s, unbeknownst to me, my hospital commander, stateside, had followed my career. I was preparing to go into a Master's Degree in college, using my Bill of Rights education money.

When I got home from work one day, my mom told Colonel so & so called and wished to speak to me. What? 2 yrs., I had not thought nor spoken to this gentleman, and he wants to talk to me. Hey, Colonel, I am no longer parking in your slot, leave me alone. lol. I asked mom what he wanted, but he did not tell her. I winked at her and said it was probably a classified top secret. Hmmmm....

After a few more calls, and my not courteously returning calls to Fla, my mother finally pressed the issue with him, asking what this was all about.
Well, he told her NASA was beginning, and

they'd like to get me in space. Her response, "Wow, so would I, and I'll work on her to get her there."

So, I went down to see what this was all about, but they needed nurses for monitoring the astronauts, etc. One drawback, they wanted you to sign up for potential space in space work. No way.

Happy reunion last night ...

The stranded crew departed early this morning EST and could be back on earth by early evening.

Hopefully their landing goes smoother than a commuter airline.

As long as we keep the Chinese away from our endeavors.

I say that because of all the Boeing airplane issues of late ……..

Something that changed in 2018 …. the Chinese got involved in production of 737’s in 2018.

WHY??
