A blac box right in the middle on/over keyboard.

How to remove?

That’s sounds odd ….tried turning it off …leave off for a little while? …I’ve had issues with my iPad freezing ….so I’ve tried lotsa things ….but Apple said it’s time to replace as it would cost more than a new iPad to fix
 
This is what Google is guessing it is...

For iOS devices (iPhone or iPad)
This issue is caused by a text enlargement feature for accessibility. The box, or "hover text," appears over your typing to display a larger version of what you're writing.
  • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboards & Typing.
  • Tap Hover Typing and toggle the feature off.
