Sunday Mornings are my Favorite

I so look forward to them.

I make my fave breakfast, a fried egg sammy on lightly toasted sourdough bread,
freshly shredded cheddar and just a little sriracha sauce,
A freshly ground cup of coffee,
Classical music lightly in the background,
Streaming webcams from all over the world also in the background.

So peaceful.

A chance to gather my thoughts and maybe ponder the meaning of life.

Sounds idylic.....:)

Right outside my patio doors I keep a little area where I put
birdseed, peanuts and water for my little feathered and furry friends.
Mr, Squirrel, chipmunk and a variety of birds stop by to have breakfast with me.

It's so interesting and entertaining to see the different species interact.

No, even though I'm not working there's something about Sunday morning. Even if you don't attend church it's a sacred morning meant to be enjoyed.
Make a special breakfast Deb. We're having French Toast.
I agree, the rest of the week i have both regular daily chores and and various steps in various projects to accomplish. But i allow myself this one day when i can just go with the flow. Read, watch movies, take a walk around our land-- whatever i feel moved to do.

I love our weekend mornings. Monday thru Friday there’s always the bustle to get out the door and get to work. Weekends, especially mornings, I can linger over coffee as I browse my socials, catch up on emails, chat idly with Ron, take a longer walk with the dogs.

Ron makes breakfast on the weekdays, I make a more lavish one on weekends. Blueberry pancakes, lox and bagels, avocado toast with a fried egg, home fries….all the things that take longer because they’re made from scratch, but are Ron’s favorites.

I miss the days of having the newspapers spread out around my chair on Sunday mornings.

These days I binge watch the morning political shows but it’s not the same.

In the winter I still enjoy a big breakfast or the smell of something good in the oven or crockpot.
I DO miss a big fat Sunday newspaper. It was like embarking on an adventurous trip. Where to start? Did you skim everything first and then go back over it for depth? Did you dig in on page one and chew your way through the whole thing methodically? Did you call out frequently, "OMG, listen to THIS!"

Our local rag now looks like a supermarket hand-out. You could stuff it in your back pocket. I haven't subscribed to it for years and years.

My buddy still does that. Sits at the dining room table and reads the Sunday paper. Years ago I lived outside Baltimore and the Sunday paper was so big it took two days to be delivered. Sections A through K (something like that) on Saturday, and the rest on Sunday, sections L through S, I loved it.

Like a lot of people here Sunday is potentially unhealthy but delicious breakfast day. The one day of the week I don't start with oatmeal and flax.
Actually as long as you're not eating things that will make an existing health condition worse (glucose impacting foods if diabetic, alcohol if kidney &/or liver issues), one day weekly of 'less healthy' food choices is not likely to do serious damage.

Glad to hear someone else uses flax seeds. They've been a big help for me. I still eat the same 3 high fiber cereals i have for years (oatmeal, shredded wheat and granola) rotating them on 6 days of week. I add a teaspoon of whole flax seeds, but have discovered that at least to me they are so small and bland i barely notice them. So now i add them to Sunday French Toast too.

This summer has been hotter than our usual here, and i have been craving berries, so i add blackberries, raspberries or blueberries to breakfast or to midday yoghurt several days a week.

Back in our younger days we might not arrive home much before one o'clock in the morning, Sunday morning that is. Saturday nights were always about having fun with friends at the ballroom. We would get home tired and ready for bed, but all that dancing meant a good wash, so we shared the bath tub and then tumbled into bed.
Sunday morning the alarm woke us up at eight, no matter how little sleep we had, we would be up, showered and eat breakfast together. Then we got dressed in Sunday finery and off to church for the eleven o'clock service. After which we would join other parishioners in the refectory for hot drinks and chit-chat.
Some Sundays we would enjoy the Sunday roast by dining out, usually when my wife was on the Sunday late shift. ( She was an ambulance paramedic.) On Sundays when she wasn't working we cooked the Sunday roast at home, probably fall asleep after clearing away everything, then, in the evening we would be off to a hotel where the lady hotel owner was rock & roll crazy. She put on a dance night like no other. Calling it the weekend stretcher, meaning we got the last vestiges of the weekend before Monday, and work, beckons. The place was always packed to the gunwales (pronounced gunnels.) and what a night it was, just fabulous.

I miss that...not that I can't go and buy a Sunday paper if I wanted... but I dn't have anywhere comfortable enough to read a huge paper anymore..

I don't have a dining table now... so it's hard holding a Sunday paper wide open to read

Nobody goes to the church on Sunday anymore???
I have tried many, religions even non-denominational , those closest to me others further. I think it's the clique thing most that bothers me.
I now pull up a sermon on the net according to what the sermon is about and I will repeat watching that Minister/Pastor if his sermon stays with me. I do "service" in my community as I can and other ways. I find I can be fulfilled doing it this way. This works for me, for some it may not.

Since Covid, my church services have gone online, and since my son went off to college, I have slowed down going physically to church, which is an hour away. I don't like driving on the freeway alone. More often than not, I watch the Divine Liturgy online and chant along. I did that this morning. In the past, on Sunday mornings, we'd be in church and I'd be singing in the choir. I was involved in many activities there. Those are long gone.

Now, I wake up late on Sundays, have my breakfast while listening/watching/singing along with the Divine Liturgy. While it's playing (3 hours long) in the background, I will reflect on the words, go into my sunroom, water the plants, paint watercolor, and relax. Today, I also walked outside and took photos of some of my flowering bushes.
