Super Bug - a taste of things to come. ?

Talking hay fever and sinus, I have suffered with it for years, in some cases had difficulty breathing, the first thing I did , all the trees that created a lot of pollen were removed,(with the help of hubby) then I rubbed Vicks Vaporub on my chest and under my nose and it works a treat, put a dob on a tissue and breath it in. So in the Spring & Summer I make sure I have my Vicks handy.

My mom swore by that stuff and was never w/o it, carried a jar in her purse. I thought it was primarily for chest/head colds, had no clue it helped with allergies. Charlotte is one of the worst cities in the country for them, but I was lucky enough not to be bothered 'til about 5 yrs ago. What a PIA!!!! I'm on Flonaise, a script steroid spray, but I'm going try the Vicks and get the Neti Pot in action as well. The spray is not enough in spring & fall. Thx for the info.

*shrug*

Avoid people, avoid the super-bug. Simple.

Darlin', I can't do that, even tho I would prefer to half the time. My lil guy and g'kids are in school, and I can't avoid exposure. Not to mention, I do groc shopping for myself, my boss, and several others for $$....and then there's my addiction to Target. I can't get around it.

KB.....i was once like you with the sinus infections. I had them for years. Nobody knows how rotten you feel when you get a bad one, they leave you feeling really sick with high temps, no energy, facial pain, yuk!! I had the antibiotics then but something changed. I started getting shocking hayfever, not just spring time but any time of the year, I'd never had anything like it. Anyway, to cut my story short, my doc gave my a script for a nose spray, can't buy this over the counter. I started using it daily and it fixed my hayfever but then I realised I hadn't had a sinus infection for ages. If I feel my sinuses getting a little blocked I use a saline nose wash, I actually use it nearly every day and thank goodness I'm still clear of any infections. Sounds strange, but true.

TO CASPER: Like a lamebrain, I started from the most recent post on this thread and backed up to finally find yours.

Believe me, I know what you're saying on sinus infections. You feel like you'd have to get better to die, and it takes almost a month to totally recoup!

I'm thinking you're on Flonaise spray. My dr has been pushing it for yrs and I chose to buy across counter meds. Finally took her advice & have been on it for 2 mos. Hearing that you haven't had an infection in yrs via using it, I will continue on. It isn't 100% for allergies, but my city just has to hold the top reign on that issue! I was thinking of ditching the spray and back to Claratin, but not after reading your post. And now I know why doc always asks...are you on your Flonaise? Going forward...YES!! I can't make myself use my saline solution/Neti Pot that often, but Flonaise is super easy. Thanks, Casper, and hope I'm as lucky as you are in it being a preventative.

I'm a bit late but have been catching up with all the posts after my last one.
For you Jilly as I'm not sure if its available in the US.....I'm on Rhinocort Aqueous Nasal Spray, this one can't be bought over the counter, I only use one squirt in each nostril every other day now as it's enough to keep it under control. There is a Rhinocort Nasal spray without a script but it's not the same.
As for the sinus wash, recommended by my GP by the way, its non-medicated Flo Sinus Care. I began with the starter kit which is the plastic squirter bottle and I think you get about 12 refill sachets with it. You just fill the bottle with lukewarm pre-boiled water, add the saline sachet to it, replace lid, give it a good shake then use as directed.
I now buy a 50 pack of refill sachets and use daily or every other day and this definitely helps.
You can purchase them at any chemist.....there is another brand that is very similar but I haven't tried that.
For our US friends, you'd only have to ask at the chemist for a similar product.
I hope this helps some of you.:)
Old Hipster, I also get the rotten post nasal drip.....I haven't solved that problem yet.:(

Thanks to all the antibiotics , that were showelled dovn our troats, and up our rectums, as well as infused in our veins, no wander the bugs got "bigger teeth"
In Ausatralian hospitals, the trend is now, :send patient home A,A.S.P as hospitals are dangerous places.
Home care, visiting nurse, all the treatments and dressings at home.

For you sinus flushers, here is a good article on safety when using the Neit pot or any other device to flush the sinuses with.

I'm extremely careful and only use distilled water, but I can see the potential of misuse and not following instructions.

Anybody that decides to use it needs to read all the instructions. And do some checking other places too.
