Supermarkets gouging customers

I wish the politicians hadn't taken the pressure off the car manufacturers to make more fuel efficient cars, if only my car got 50 miles per gallon instead of 35 mpg I'd save so much on gas. At least the silver lining of the current gas prices is that my daughter has finally noticed the difference between her mom-enforced boring Honda Civic car choice (since I had to sign she was stuck ha ha) and her boyfriends big pickup truck. She used to want a big pickup but she's now looking at more sensible choices, yay! (when she was a teenager she always said she was going to get a Hummer when she grew up, don't hear any of that talk now, heh heh heh).
One of my co-workers mentioned recently that people don't seem to be driving any more sensibly since the price of gas went up so much. I thought I was the only one who noticed this. I have larger cars, trucks and SUV's gun the engine to get around me only to be at the next light waiting or perhaps they got to their destination 2 minutes faster. This co-worker and I both drive small sedans.

There will be a downstream effect to all of this. People will be forced to buy food based on price and not preference or nutrition. So that will contribute to increasing obesity rates in children and adults and the associated health issues (high blood pressure, high triglycerides, high glucose, etc). There has to be an end to this insanity.

I believe that prices are supply and demand driven. If there's any reason that creates the supply to be disrupted, prices will rise. We've just had two years of a massive change in our supply system, so prices will rise. It will take some time to equalize the supply chain again.
