Surveillance Cameras

Oh yes...apart from rural locations there are CCTV cameras everywhere. :(
also. people who live in more rural locations as I do..rely on Video doorbells, and CCTV 's on their homes... because theives think they can't be seen out in the countryside... and of course up until recently many thefts were from here and places like these...but more and more Surveillance cameras and gadgets are becoming the norm now , at the expense of our freedoms of course..

Since I don’t plan on committing any crimes, it wouldn’t bother me. If someone did something to me or my family, I’d be thrilled that there’s a way to help catch & convict them.

This year, we’ve expanded our study to look at the number of cameras per square mile with Delhi, London, and Chennai all having more cameras per square mile than any Chinese city we covered. Residents living in cities across the US, Russia, Mexico, and South Korea will also find themselves surrounded by a large number of watchful eyes, as our look at the number of public CCTV cameras in the 150 most populated cities worldwide found.

Comparitech researchers collated a number of data resources and reports, including government reports, police websites, and news articles, to get some idea of the number of CCTV cameras in use in 150 major cities across the globe. We focused primarily on public CCTV—cameras used by government entities such as law enforcement.

Here are our key findings:

  • 16 out of the top 20 most surveilled cities (based on the number of cameras per 1,000 people) are in China. London, Indore, Hyderabad, and Delhi were the only cities outside of China to make the top 20, taking third, fourth, twelfth, and sixteenth place respectively
  • 11 out of the top 20 most surveilled cities (based on the number of cameras per square mile) are in China. Delhi, London, Chennai, Singapore, Seoul, Moscow, New York, Mumbai, and Mexico City all feature within the top twenty.
  • Delhi, London, and Chennai all have more cameras per square mile than any Chinese city
  • By the end of this year, over one billion surveillance cameras will be installed worldwide, according to IHS Markit’s latest report

This was a question that I was going to ask anyone in the UK.In British movies the police can look everywhere they want. Too much fiction or a lot of the truth?

Yes Jules, as hollydolly has put up a link to the fact that there
many cameras here, facial recognition ones, vehicle number
plate recognition ones, cameras that pick up vehicles that are
polluting the air with black smoke and cameras that decide if
you need to pay to drive in the Centre of London, same if you
cross the Thames at Dartford, cameras that decide if you pay or
cross for free.

But as I believe that I am honest and don't commit crimes, I am
very happy with the cover.

My car passes the smoke test and I can also drive in London for
free.

Mike.

You mean emissions Mike ? ...and also at Dartford that's a Toll Bridge...:D

If you get too isolated and out of sight of neighbors, you would be a target.
There's truth to that, Chet.

My only concern would be when leaving to go to town to shop, etc, and leaving the property unattended, though with security, trail-cams, etc, pretty risky business on the part of undesirables.

Yes hollydolly I mean emissions, but I have to pay to cross at Dartford,
they have removed the toll booths several years ago, I think that you
need to pay on-line, I can drive in London for free.

I haven't been over the bridge in several years..last time was to go to Bluewater... so I didn't know they'd removed the toll Booths.. good to know..(y)

We just upgraded our security system. We now gave six cameras outside and five inside, plus glass breakers and two motion detectors. I know it’s overkill, but fun to look at the video at times.
