I know many people on here like the smell of Lavender.. but that's the smell I associate with Old people ever since my childhood.. they'd have overheated homes with highly polished furniture having used lavender polish.. and then they'd put a little bit of lavender scent on... *yuk*.. I sore I;d never have lavender in my house.. and I never have..

I would rather smell peoples natural scent. I’m often overwhelmed with the colognes that some women wear especially in the waiting rooms! My last truck I bought the dealer put some of those air fresheners in there. Took me a month to find them under the seats.

that's the trouble tho'...apparently us old folks, don't smell that sweet au naturale as we age...
 
I was reminded of a piano teacher I had when I was 4 yrs old.
She was around 300 lbs & she smelled like a mixture of a filthy ashtray, powder & perfume. She'd sit next to me on the piano bench, leaving hardly any distance between us. I'd have to hold my breath as long as I could. And I also worried about the bench collapsing.
She'd always ask my mom, "What's wrong with Tony; he's always fidgeting; he can't sit still."

That's kind of disgusting.

I'm sure young people have a sharper sense of smell than old folks do.

I shower daily too.. but I almost always wear perfume when I go out.. not much..I do hate smelling other people's perfume from yards away..but I like the smell of perfume on me..

What is a 'clean' smell ?
Bathing with soap and water?.. No doubt the soap has some perfume.
I use my moisture cream sparingly and it does not have the full scent of the perfume.
Better to smell that in a crowded elevator or wherever than this old age smell which I don't think I have ever smelled on anyone I know.
Younger people can have a bad smell too
An old gentleman , since passed, on my apartment floor used a very nice after shave and it was always a pleasure to meet him. We always knew when he had been around.

My grandparents had that distinct scent associated with age, but my father, who lived until he was 92, the latter years with his daughter, my sister, never did. My guess is it's down to the advances in hygiene, that's not to say my grandparents rarely bathed or even wash, they were meticulous but they didn't have things like an automatic washing machine and the tumble drier was way into the future, so their clothing is probably the source of that old folk scent.

My wife and I are far more fortunate, we have a bath almost every night, a freshen up shower in the morning. The electric toothbrush gets teeth far cleaner than my grandparents ever could with the hand brush. Most of my clothes only get a one day wear and certainly our underwear is always fresh on every day. It's ignorance of those sort of details that give the strong pong.

One other thing that I will admit to, I wear perfume, not aftershave but male perfume. It's YSL Opium for men. Just a few squirts on my neck. In addition, I always give my armpits a couple of squirts of Nivea deodorant. My Grandfather is probably turning in his grave at my admission.

You should consider putting a bung in the other end! When you eat sprouts, bacteria in the stomach and intestine will attempt to break them down and will release a variety of gases in the process including nitrogen, methane, carbon dioxide and hydrogen.

A lady (or a guy) went to the doctor and said, "I pass gas often, but there's no sound and no smell. That worries me, because it doesn't seem normal."

The doctor booked an operation right away. Just as the lady woke up, she let out a fart. "Yikes," she said, "That really stinks! I suppose that means the operation was a success."

"Excellent," said the doctor. "Next week we'll operate on your ears."
