Take Away Meals

In the days when I used to pay the driver for a meal, I would always add on a couple of pound as a tip.
Now that I tend to use Apps such as Just Eat to order a meal the driver misses out.
I know some add a service charge to the bill any way but I'm suspicious of that, so I'm going to make sure in future to have some cash to tip the driver.

I'm so close to restaurants that I rarely use a delivery service. I can just drive less than a mile in any direction to get food.

Although, I have had pizza delivered from around the corner, and I give them a tip of a few bucks.

I usually tip the pizza delivery person twenty percent. I know the pizza places pay them little. I don't tip Aldi's as much because the shoppers make a good wage. So I give them about 4 dollars for a tip that is unless they are exceptional, then I'll give them more.

You mentioned Aldi's- when Kitty was still with me, I'd been buying a specific type of cat food from there, and the groceries were delivered by Instacart.
I happened to see a forum where Instacart workers posted, and some said if the tips that were offered were too low they simply refused to take the orders. They said they had access to all info about orders in advance, including the tips the customers were offering.
I heard they went on strike last summer, but this was before then.

I never use those apps, I still just call the particular Take-away direct, ( we don;t have many choices here in the rural east of the county) and they deliver, and I pay them in cash at the door...

I tip for pizza deliveries and groceries I get delivered from Walmart.
we're not permitted by the supermarkets to tip the grocery drivers.. or I should say the drivers are not permitted to accept tips...

Tipping is not required here, but I tip the hairdressers, and waiters, and always I tip the postman at Christmas.. and I used to tip cab drivers, but fares are astronomical now, so on the odd occasion I take a cab I don't tip...

If they know everything about the tips then they know you can also tip after you get the delivery. You can change the tip online after delivery to reflect how well the delivery went. I always get my orders delivered with no problem and sometimes tip after. I've also given cash tips at the time of delivery.

Yes, I know. I read recently that customers offering a specific tip and then removing it after delivery was one of the main reasons they went on strike.
As for me, I always did the opposite- increased the amount of the tip afterward, if the service was good. But I never eliminated a tip even the few times service wasn't so good.

Me on Instacart: delivery was to be between 6 and 7PM I get on the iPad at 5.30 PM....my shopper name appears she is about to begin...I have chosen bananas, apples and pears,,,,the bananas are in the cart, a long pause...BBQ sauce..I am calling out...where are the apples they are with the pears beside the bananas....then I text my shopper...she says I will get there...????? ok then I do get the fruits...on to the meat...what I want is not available..I get a photo of what is...can't make out anything I tell her to get as close as to what I asked for,,she says I have no idea never had that before...??? anyway....I spoke out loud all throughout the grocery...I tipped my shopper well and thanked her and decided I was not cut out for instacart....

Cool. That's a strange reason to go on strike--because people had removed a tip--that's not where most of their pay comes from. Oh well, that just seems odd to me. Who were they striking against? Surely it couldn't be the ones who removed the tip. It had to be against Instacart and Instacart can't control what the customers do with tips.

I have also increased the tip if the service was very good. I gave the last delivery person a $10.00 tip. Best service I ever got.
