Taking meds....

What do you all do, when you have meds required, and many/most state best if accompanied by food, and, you're just not hungry ?

I have a few that I take in the evening, [now] and they carry the w/food suggestion / direction. And I'm just not hungry. I have often wondered just what qualifies [as] food ? In terms of amount? A seven course dinner ? or just a few crackers ?....Next time I'm at the doctor I intend to ask him.

I am only on 4 medications, all taken once a day. I normally take them at dinnertime, which suits the one med that has a food requirement. Has worked well so far.

I keep a few low carb protein drinks in the frig. Take a sip or two or I can use more and pretend it is a treat that I don't often allow myself.

Some make a tasty faux chocolate soda (like we got at the drug store fountain) if mixed with a little fizzy water or ginger ale.

Remember Mary Poppins "a little bit of sugar...."

Maybe ask your pharmacist. In my experience, many times pharmacists have a far more extensive knowledge of this sort of thing.

One of my seizure meds has to be taken with food or it makes me very nauseous and I have to take it morning and night. I'm not a morning person and don't even get hungry until close to lunch so I usually just eat one slice of bread, or toast. I sometimes just drink a glass of milk. Just something to slow the breakdown of the medicine as it goes through your digestive tract.

I keep a few protein shakes to take night meds with. One bottle lasts me 2 days.

Instead of buying the more expensive Slim Fast shakes, I have been buying the Walmart Equate brand. They have a better taste and cost less. I prefer the vanilla ones.

I am down to one tablet these days unless I take
a painkiller, I take tablets at breakfast with food.

My Mother used to say, when you have to take a
tablet and you are not hungry, have a biscuit or a
glass of milk, milk is food after all.

Never take a tablet less than half an hour before
going to bed as it will lie in the tubes and might
do damage, sit up after taking one for around a
half an hour to let it reach tha stomach.

@Mike , good advice but how does not taking a pill less than half hour before bed, if for example it's a sleeping pill or a muscle relxant (which sends me off to sleep sometimes within 15 minutes) ?

Maybe I should have said pain killers as they are a bit
more agressive, but all tablets are processed in the
stomach and you really don't want them to cause any
damage by breaking down in the wrong place.

Except of course suppositories!

Mike.
