Taking Pills

Good Christmas Morning Everyone:

As I was taking my two pills this morning, one for Cholesterol and one for IBS, (all because of eating airport food for 34 years), it dawned on me that I had been wondering if taking two different pills from two different classifications are OK? The pills are Simvastatin and Dicyclomine. I have seen some people, a friend of mine for one, take several pills at one time. He takes a statin, diabetes pill, acid reflux pill and a couple of vitamins, all one after the other with OJ. That's right, OJ. The man has acid reflux and drinks OJ as if it were soda pop. He must drink a gallon a week, even after his doctor has told him not to.

Anyway, anyone know if it matters taking two different classes of pills at the same time? Does one somehow counteract the other? Am I getting the benefit of the medicine by taking the two at the same time?

I was advised to take my Cholesterol medication at night before bed as the liver produces cholesterol when we are sleeping.. I take Pravastatin at night.. and my BP medicine in the morning.

Was both the Simvastatin and Dicyclomine prescribed by the same doctor? If you can't get in touch with your doctor, call the pharmacist first to e sure.

Each morning after my toast & coffee, I gulp down:
1- Vitamin C 500 mg
1- "Over-55" Multivitamin
1- Fish Oil 1000 mg
1- Tadalafil 5mg
2- Cranberry Gel, 4200mg
1- Aspirin 81 mg (every other day)
1- Ziac 5 mg (Bisoprolol 5 mg + Hydrochlorothiazide [HCTZ] 6.25 mg)

Quite habitually a gluttonous eater, that bunch go down with the last gulp of coffee. My wife says I'm lucky to have a big gullet. No problem. imp

Both your doctor and pharmacist should be knowledgeable about this. You can also search online, "time of day to take prescriptions", "drug interactions," or even by your particular medication name.

I had a recent experience when I had a five day cold with progressively increasing symptoms. Because I didn't feel good, I skipped my morning pills for 3-4 days. One is a very common anti-depressant. By day 4 I was feeling nauseous, dizzy, really down and headachey. I thought I had the flu. On day 5 I went to the doctor. That morning I had noticed I'd missed the pills. When I mentioned that, she told me it could take up to two weeks of being back on he med, to get back to normal. I learned a huge lesson!
