Ya know you see those commercials all the time about free credit report and Credit Karma in like 2 minutes? Well after filling out a multitude of questions and then having them tell me I am already registered there (I did try them once before I realized) and I will have to do the process all over again with a new email address...I'm really trying to be patient. I do everything they say and then they ask me a bunch of questions that don't make any sense about credit cards and loans they say I've had. I answer them honestly and they tell me that my answers are incorrect and they ask me a whole bunch of more questions that don't make sense about mortgage loan companies and other banks they say I've had accounts with and none of them ring a bell so again I answer them all honesty. And I haven't lost my memory either. They now tell me all my answers are incorrect and I am not getting my credit report. Then they tell me I can send them copies of my driver's license, passport and a host of other things to prove who I am to Credit Karma. Do you think I will?

It's all about attempting to verify your identity before they release the credit report. The ones I've encountered list 4 banks and ask you which one held your mortgage, or a car loan, for instance. Granted, it's not always current information, in my experience, and is sometimes hard to recall.

If you're asking do we think you'll receive your credit report if you jump through all those hoops, yes, I think you probably will. So far as I know Credit Karma is reputable. You could try annualcreditreport.com, as well. I believe they are the ones who will give you your fico score from your choice of Equifax, Experian or TransUnion.

If you've been denied credit because of your score the 3 major credit bureaus have to give you a report, free. This was true a few years ago; don't know if that's changed. Call them and ask.
 
You can go to consumerfinance.gov, the US government site run by the Consumer Protection Finance Bureau for details about getting a free credit report. You can also go to one of the three big credit reporting agencies, Experian, TransUnion, or Equifax to get information too, who will require a similar process to verify your identity. Believe me, you want them to verify who you are. Personally, I would not give my information to any other credit reporting companies than the big three.

The questions about my credit were totally off. I have never owned a house and had a mortgage, never banked with any of the banks they listed, it was all BS. I know who my creditors are and they didn't list them in the questions.
