Tall women.

My 1st ex was 6 feet tall. I'm 6, also She used to gripe that guys wouldn't date a girl taller than he was. Blah. Blah. Blah. Until we were in a grocery store, and we got on the subject of her height. She said, " Watch this". There was a normal height guy in the check out lane. She stood next to him with her back to him and she was talking to me. She did nothing like stand close or anything. He put his goods on the counter. Then he quickly picked up his goods and went to stand in another long line. If I didn't see it, I wouldn't have believed it.
It's amazing how a little thing effects us, isn't it

I don't think it matters much to the younger generation. But when I was a teenager, a guy wouldn't date me if he thought I was taller than he. I am 5'8". I also didn't want to tower over a shorter guy while wearing high heels on a date. So when I answered the door to greet my date, I wore flats. Another person in the house would shake their head "yes" if I could safely wear heels or "no" if I should keep wearing flats.

It's hard to believe we thought that was so important.

Also, the tall football and basketball players in high school always wanted to date the short girls which left only short boys for me. :playful:

Oh, yes, I remember how the short girls got the tall guys in high school. Everybody wanted to be "Gidget" and it definitely thinned out the crowd for the tall girls.

Silly, but I remember when we girls would "cruise" on Friday nights (making our rounds of the drive-in restaurants to check out the "talent") and I would slump down in the seat to look shorter than I was. Well, I said it was silly, didn't I?

I'm 5'6" but I had my full height by the sixth grade. Somehow I always got stuck with the guy who hadn't hit his growth spurt yet when we had to square or folk dance in gym class. And heaven help me who I got stuck with when we had to do ballroom dancing.

I was 6'4" so I never experienced girls taller than me.

My granddaughter is 5'10", but I haven't heard any complaints.

I always wanted to be taller! Oh goodness, being tall has it's advantages in this stage of life. I am only 5-1"' and I cannot tell you how many times I have had to ask some taller person to reach something for me in the grocery store. But I have got resourceful, if there is no one around, I just go to the aisle with the "grilling tools" and pull off a long handled spatula and go back and pull it forward on the shelf!

That's the nice side of being tall.

But try being tall and comfortable in a movie theater or on an airplane. Or getting in and out of small, economy cars.

Or worse, slamming your kneecap into one of those steel center poles bolted to the floor underneath the tables in restaurants once or twice. Tall people do that a lot. I can tell you it huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurts!!!!!!!!

I'm 6 feet. I never thought about height. Jill was 6, too. I used to think that all the talk about boys/men being put off because of her height was a lot of hooey. Until the guy in the check out lane. She did absolutely nothing to provoke him. Her back was to him, and there was space between them. He put his goods down on the counter. He got all fluster, and grabbed his stuff and went to another line. If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have believed it. I had no idea guys were so self conscience of their height. No guy ever mentioned it. I don't know if it's still like that.

I am ex military and I always say to young people who are very tall and perhaps a bit conscious of their height to be proud of their height, walk tall, shoulders back, head up and not slouch.
