Tasteless Butter

I got a small tub of real butter at the farmer's market. You'd think butter would have a buttery taste. This had absolutely no flavor - it was like shortening. I'm so used to eating Smart Balance - is real butter usually that bland?

Most of the fresh supermarket butter is tasteless.

I prefer ripe butter or the European style cultured butter.

Leave your farm fresh butter on the counter at room temperature in a covered butter dish for a couple days and it will begin to taste like butter.

I put out a half stick at a time to use on toast.

Is it unsalted?

Aunt Bea has it right. Once it's in the butter dish, I don't put the butter back in the fridge, it stays on the counter. It's never there for very long because I add a pat or two to stuff while I cook, but it sits out for at least 3 or 4 days.
