Taylor Swift. Person of the Year. Well Deserved IMO

ā€œ It has a great origin story—or maybe more of a legend. At the end of 1927, the editors of TIME looked at the year’s covers and realized they had somehow failed to put Charles Lindbergh on the cover. He’d done his historic flight in May, but no cover. They decided they could get away with putting him on the cover months later by calling him ā€œMan of the Year.ā€ It was a stopgap. And here we are 87 years later. The challenge is that on one hand, we’re trying to make a decision about who best represents the news of the year. But the pick also needs to have archival value. You need the sense that it will stand the test of time. So ideally, we want our Person of the Year to be both a snapshot of where the world is and a picture of where it’s going. Someone, or in rare cases, something, that feels like a force of history.ā€

Taylor Swift is a ā€œforce of historyā€?

The list of this year’s final nominees includes:
  • Hollywood Strikers
  • Xi Jinping
  • Taylor Swift – *WINNER*
  • Sam Altman
  • Trump Prosecutors
  • Barbie
  • Vladimir Putin
  • King Charles III
  • Jerome Powell

Person of the Year means what? The person who made us happy. The person who made us think. The person who heroically sacrificed. The person we could all admire. The person who led us to new heights. The person who solved a big problem. Etc., Etc.

What did Taylor Swift do this year that she did not do last year or the year before? I don't see anything that Taylor has done differently this year than in the past which makes her stand out this year. Will someone please tell me what it was that made her stand out this year and last year not?

If there is nothing, then maybe the reason she was selected is because they simply could not think of anyone else who stood out for reasons noted above. And, that's a sad commentary, I think. Don't you think so, too?

I don't care for her music, but glad she made the cover. She seems to be very positive and uplifting for all of her many fans. She is a smart, strong and successful woman, and she is very generous and has given to many, including animal shelters, etc. We need more people like her in this world, IMO. I never got too excited over who was or wasn't Person of the Year, but I think with the choices, she was a good one.

Trump prosecutors? šŸ˜±šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

Taylor swift gets a lot of flack from others thinking she’s all that but she isn’t just a successful pop star; she works very hard to give back. She has even opened up schools for under privileged kids. She’s done countless free concerts for charity. She really deserves this.

That’s not the criteria. Hitler won in 1938.

It’s always a controversial choice and, apparently, people think it’s always a positive person. Hitler won in 1938.

I like Taylor and all, but Person of the Year?

She's a brilliant marketer and pulled the rug from under Hollywood power brokers this year by successfully bypassing studios and directly releasing her movie to theater chains. That's a big deal, actually revolutionary for the business and has the potential to empower other artists wealthy enough to self-market to do the same. Anyone who bests that monopoly is a pretty important Person for the year.

Aside from this award, Taylor Swift has done a lot. It’s surprising how many people despise really successful people. There are people who actually hated Princess Diana. One has to be quite cold hearted to hate that women. She WAS and still is ā€˜the people’s Princess.’
Some people’s jealousy turns to hatred.

And some people think everyone has to love everyone they love, but, yes, sometimes jealousy turns to hatred. That’s why people hate DT..

I’ve never understood idol worship. You don’t know what someone is really like unless you personally know them. Having a crush on a teen idol when we were teens is one thing, but, come on.

As for Diana, how do you feel about Camilla?
