The statement below is mind boggling to me. According to all the research done so far, Asymptomatic people can spread Covid-19. Yet teachers can continue to work after exposure?
Potentially infecting children? Those children going home potentially infecting parents and others?
I thought the goal was to stop the spread of this virus not spread it further.:mad::mad:

"The guidance for essential workers states that they can continue to work even after exposure to a confirmed case of Covid-19, provided they remain asymptomatic"

So my comment regarding that statement is crazy insane?
Nooooo! That’s far from what I meant.
Sorry if you took it that way.
Starsong explains it better though.
I’m continuously being shocked at what I read that it all seems crazy.
It’s seems like everyone’s going nuts including the people in leadership. There’s so much disharmony everywhere that normal everyday life seems surreal. That’s the best I can explain it in a censored fashion, which is one of the reasons I’d rather just laugh and goof off. 🤪🥳

Not defending the govt. but it is not a mandate. Teacher should be declared as angels not essential workers. Our education system is a joke.

Lets get real. These decisions are made at the local level. NOT the federal level. Did you hear that? LOCAL. Having said that, our school district has said teachers get one "free" 14 day period to quarantine. After that, they have to use their sick days. Personally I think that sucks. I used my sick days carefully when I was teaching. And used them when I needed them. What happens when you run out of sick days? Your salary is docked as much as $50 a day. So 10 working days equals $500. It stinks. I have no answers. My daughter teaches. I worry.

The White House knows that these decisions are (supposedly) made at the local level. That's why the article says,

(CNN) The White House is formally declaring teachers essential workers as part of their efforts to encourage schools around the country to reopen for in-person learning. The move is just the latest in the administration's aggressive campaign to pressure districts into bringing back students this fall -- and although the essential worker designation provides guidance for educators that is only voluntary, it calls on teachers to return to the classroom even after potential exposure.

I have to wonder what the words "encourage" and "pressure" mean in this context.

That's infuriating, @CarolfromTX. What do they expect teachers to do?
