Team Spirit at Walmart

Maybe this a regular event. Or maybe I’ve just haven’t been in the store when it happens. This was in the vegetable department. Anyone else seen this or do other businesses do similar.

If I worked there, I’d want it to be voluntary.

I would definitely find it uncomfortable.

Today is 4/20, perhaps they were all high? LOL

I worked at one little company that had us do a team building activity of designing a flag for the company. It was awfully silly but since they were having the activity at a hotel on a workday and feeding us really well, nobody complained!

Oh my, those poor people.
One advantage is that there are so many employees no one would know if you did not spell out WALMART.
I would be one of them!

I don’t even have to watch the video… I know for certain I would be hiding under the bottom shelf in housewares til it was all over.

Walmart has done that for decades. Some locations stopped doing it, though, for the very reason you mentioned; employees preferring it be voluntary.

On a similar note, every time I used to go to Albertson's after the gym I always heard "Takin' Care of Business". I really thought their music track was limited, then an employee told me they play it every day at 3pm to motivate employees. None seemed motivated. It just so happened I was in the store at 3pm every time I was there.

"Forced" team-spirit-building sessions seldom "build" anything but resentment.

We had an all-day one when I was working at a large national health insurance company. Nobody wanted to be there. It just meant that we were all going to be a day behind in work and it came at a time when morale was at an all-time low and we were all unsure about our jobs.

One of the things we had to do was make something out of Legos that was supposed to represent the spirit of our company. It was fun to play with Legos, but nobody could come up with anything complimentary. There were a few naughty words spelled out in Legos surreptitiously, though. Everyone did refuse to participate in the questionable exercise when you fall backwards and depend on your team-mates to catch you. We weren't that gullible.
