Tech Neck and Poor Posture

Do you have Tech Neck? I do. Have you evaluated your posture while using your computer, laptop, phone, etc?

What is tech neck?

Tech neck is any form of chronic neck or shoulder pain, soreness or stiffness caused by poor posture while using technology, such as phones or computers.

Looking down at electronic devices causes the neck muscles to strain and the shoulders to slump forward. Musculoskeletal fatigue and pressure on the nerve supply in the neck can cause pain in the neck, which also can cause referred pain in the arms and hands. Over time, staying in this position can increase the force and effort on your shoulders, neck and upper back muscles and put uneven pressure on your spine.

I’ve been trying to correct my slumped posture while using my iPad. Most of the time I use it in my reading chair which means I’m looking down. So far I’ve bought a lap table which helps a bit. It’s time to add a pillow under it too.

My neck is okay (so far). I've not been one to slump in the chair, but lately I slipped into a habit of poor posture, and suffered lower back pain. I put a thin pillow behind my back 3-4 days ago which sort of props me up and prevents me from slumping. All the back pain is now gone.

I have my laptop on a table set so I can look straight on to the screen. No neck bending. I don't use my phone much for more than calling. My Ipad probably needs to be charged.

I do have bone spurs in my neck which caused me to be aware of my head/neck position.

I have a pinched nerve in my neck they say was due to a bad car accident in my youth...

Lots of neck pain if I don't sit right or sleep on it correctly.... so I always put the monitor so I'm looking a bit down at it.

^^ that is really poor grammar :ROFLMAO: sorry folks, it's one of those days I just can't be bothered to "think"...

Same, especially when working at the IRS. My head was always in the down position while reading 1040's. I have to do my shoulder rolls now which helps, and I've elevated my computer with phone books so I'm staring straight ahead, not downward.

My old, elaborate wooden carved computer chair made around in 1970 or even earlier which made me tired after 45 minutes' looking at some of Web-site.
I changed to the inexpensive type, new chair made around in 2000. On sitting a new chair, I found not get tired even one and a half hours' computer , even two hours.
For me, chair makes a big difference, even I tend to have poor posture after sitting in front of computer more than one hour.
