Teen dies just 3 hours after being ‘sextorted’ as nefarious international groups like 764 target US kids: ‘It’s 100% murder’

I am too choked up to even finish this article right now. This sentence jumped out at me, and I guess I just wanted to share it. "'My son had 30 freaking dollars and he’s like, ‘Sir, I’ll give you my last $30.’ And these cowards wouldn’t take it,' a tearful Adam told The Post, recounting his son’s final exchange."

The whole teens-and-social-media/smartphone issue aside, it's hard to comprehend this level of evil. 😢
 

Parental controls re: social media on the internet should be enforced until age 18. There is too much bullying, and peer pressure for engaging in so many illicit behaviors that go unchecked in our schools for that matter. I looks like it's great sport for all this abnormal behavior today.
 

This is being going on for quite a while now... another downside of allowing kids to have mobile phones and or social media accounts....:(

I agree this should be classed as manslaughter at the very least......

if my daughter was a teen now instead in the 90's.. I would tell her that there is NOTHING she can't tell me and that we can't sort out if anyone is trying to blackmail her, and to not be ashamed to tell, because she wouldn't be to blame

Of everything in life, I will not tolerate under any circumstances any kind of blackmail, against me .. or my family..

I don't care what someone has on me.. if they start trying to blackmail me.. I tell them to go ahead and tell everybody they know the secret they hold on me.. because I just won't allow anyone to blackmail me... let them tell.. I just don't stand for that BS

I heard about this from a friend of mine that is a retired state trooper. I was appalled of the things that these low-life’s think of to make money and/or bring harm to people. Let’s hope the law enforcement community can catch these pieces of garbage and shut it down.

Agreed. It's hard to believe there are such evil people out here who prey on young teens. Sigh. That sounds very naive. Of course, I well know that people like that exist. That statement just made me get so choked up.

I guided three teens through the minefield of social media with strict parental controls until age 18, the desktop computer was out in the kitchen living area, all phones had to be on the kitchen counter overnight (and I'd check during the night)—and, like you, @hollydolly, I continually reassured them that they could come to me with anything, absolutely anything. Perhaps rather ironically, I told them they could text or email me if they were too embarrassed to say anything in person, and they did in fact do that on occasion.

My point wasn't so much social media and teens' access to it. It was the grief at knowing that such evil exists. (Again, that's naive, I know.)

That quote just really got to me.

The United States needs legislation to protect children from parents who give them unsupervised use of smartphones. There are already laws against giving your children alcohol, tobacco and drugs. Smartphones should be added to the list. If a few parents had to go to jail for these tragedies a lot of them would stop.
 
My browser won't let me open the article....says my "connection is not private", etc. But the headline tells enough of the story. These types of things happen too frequently. I saw something on the news about the dangers of 764 a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, it would be very hard, if not impossible to stop them or shut them down. I feel so sorry for that teen's parents.

just in the same way that teens of our generation, viewed porn or similar.. behind parents backs.. but if it was just something they occasionally did it would be completely diffreent, but sadly and greatly unfortunately, kids today some very young indeed are living their lives on a daily basis, hour by hour through social media.. and they're learning so much wrong and dangerous information from it..
 
The issue no one tells or educates these teens things like if someone/stranger asks for something wether it be pictures or money on line they should ignore it. They also need to learn why there are sayings like 'if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn't. Learning about scams should be consumer skill taught in schools, in home etc.

Even as an adult they should have cautionary internet habits like posting personal information/habits online. These predators used his existing online information to build a profile on him.

And this after someone took themselves out after they fell in love with an ai chatbot.
 
This is terrible. I would bet that he isn’t the only one to have done the deed. The parents must be devastated. It will take them a long time to heal. These people that do these things are definitely evil and have no conscience. They need to rot in prison until they die.

For the parents: I am sorry for your pain. May God lay His hand upon both of you. I hope that you find peace.
