Teen Dies in Fall From World's Tallest Drop Tower

Everyone was just panicking and screaming,' Orlando witness says.

A 14-year-old boy has died after a horrifying fall from a ride that was billed as "the world's tallest free-standing drop tower" when it opened in Orlando in December. Witnesses say they saw the teen fall from the 430-foot Orlando FreeFall ride at ICON Park Thursday night, Fox 35 reports. "At first we thought it was a piece of the ride or whatever until we got a little closer and it was a person laying on the ground," says witness Montrey Williams. "Everyone was just panicking and screaming." The attraction has restraints that pull over the rider but no seat belt. It's still unclear how the teen fell out, or how far he fell.

Dad Says His 14-Year-Old Son Panicked Before ICON Park Drop Death

“They didn’t secure the seatbelt on him,” she said. He was also breathing just after the fall, she said, but because he had fallen on his stomach, no one could perform CPR. His arms and legs appeared to be broken, she said.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating Tyre Sampson’s death after he fell from the 430-foot drop tower Thursday. Sampson retained Ben Crump, famous for his civil rights and personal injury claims, who said a fun time at a park “should not have ended in tragedy.”
Sampson said the ride was the only one who offered to take his 6-foot-5-inch, 340-pound son, something he found suspicious.
"This one particular ride said, ‘We can take you, come on! Get on!’” he said. “No one else allowed him to get on the ride, so I’m wondering what happened between now and then that made them say, ‘Come on, get this ride!’”

Could it be the ride was not designed for a person that size? most rides would not allow him on rides....it says in article.

so sad. I am not a fan of these kinds of "ever increasing danger" rides. All that has to happen for a fatality is a little mechanical error, or an error from the park staff. And the park staff are not some kind of highly trained professionals with profound skill to handle dangerous situations. They are kids, making minimum wage or barely above that.

Recipe for problems.

Such a terrible tragedy and for those witnesses who had to see it happen that had to be just something awful. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of them.
