Teen Fights Off Bear Bare Handed To Protect Her Dogs!!

I guess that is a pretty stupid thing to do but if my dogs were in danger I would have done the same thing.
Years ago my dog got loose because I accidently dropped his leash. He crossed a busy highway with me right behind him. I ran right in front of a car which was so close I was able to put my hand on the front of the car. The man was furious and scared as he slammed on the brakes.
I did get across and managed to get my dog.
But it was a very dumb thing to do.

I’ve protected my cats from possums, dogs, and other cats, nothing as formidable as a bear, however! 🙀

It was a stupid thing to do. The dogs would probably have been fine without intervention, but even if not it wasn't worth the risk.

I assume this was a black bear, would have to be in that area. Not so dangerous as a grizzly (brown) but still can do damage. In Florida we used to have lots of bears, often in our yard, all black. To my knowledge the only attack that lead to an injury to a person was after a girl kicked the bear (alcohol was involved). But the cubs would make things more risky. My experience with black bears is that they are usually run off by dogs, don't know of one hurting a dog, but again with the cubs that might turn out differently.

My sentiment to a T.

A black bear is just as capable of maiming or killing a human being as a grizzly bear.

Being married to a great outdoorsman, my husbands words in relation to bears... "bears can be mean, they're tough, they'll mess you up, give them lots of respect and a wide berth".

I agree, however it is a much less common outcome of an encounter. In my post I was just referring to the local area around where I lived, with lot of black bears. I know there have been a few fatal encounters elsewhere. Black bears are wild animals with the strength and tools to do a lot of damage, best viewed from a distance.

I totally follow you, Alligator, your post was great.

We've had a number of attacks and deaths in and around our area over the years, truly scary.

My husband said he's amazed at the sheer numbers of people who will grab a fishing rod and walk deep into the wilderness to fish a remote lake, or go mushroom or berry picking and pack nothing with them for protection. No bear spray, no gun, no nothing.

An encounter that happened to my husband and I one day while we were out on a day outing (on foot) in the outdoors, changed me forever as far as my fear of bears goes.

My husband knows a fellow hunter who suffered a bear attack back in the 80's, and to this day half of the mans face is fitted with a semi-clear plastic eye-socket, cheek bone area, and portion of his jawline, and is missing an ear and has a good portion of his scalp and top of his head torn away, and the attack was quick where the bear just bit and swiped, then ran off.

When adrenaline takes over, we do dumb things without thinking.

You can buy some new dogs but not a new head. Many hunting dogs have died chasing cougars and bears. They don't have the good sense to know when they have met their match As for that woman, she is an idiot.
