Televangelists and their great wealth

I am a Christian but I have never sent donations to any such preachers, wouldn't dream of doing it. Apart from donating to collection plates at church, I do not do it. I never even buy their books unless they are in very cheap offer in kindle.

I wonder why so many people do give sizable sums to these mega wealthy preachers? Swallowing their myths about how anything they give will be returned as many blessings. It troubles me that poor people are encouraged to part with their scant resources.

Anyway, they will never get a penny from me! No matter how good their preaching and teachings.

Read up a bit on absolution and the Catholic Church.

I used to enjoy the Reverend Robert H. Schuller and his Hour of Power filmed at his Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California.

I never sent him any money but I always thought that he was charismatic, inspirational, and entertaining.

I don’t know anything about him but I believe that he probably did more good than harm.

Many are good teachers of scripture.

It's a grift. Nothing more. I enjoyed watching them when I was in the US because it was a complete;y alien thing to me, and so obviously a grift.

They take advantage of those with faith, and they do it shamelessly. They're the equivalent of the circus coming to town. It's theater.

In Germany are No TV preachers. On YouTube are some religious channels, but I doubt that they make much money.

I knew what happened in the U.S. for four decades. I never understood it.

But I gave one or two Euro into an offertory box dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua in a church of my hometown every now and then. I owe him a lot.

There is a, cough, 'Christion' program on T V that is so nutty. The so-called preacher stresses how blessed you'll be if you send in $1000! to spread his "God's Word" and you'll receive some kind of blessing. It blows my mind to see so many in his audience whoopty-doing in agreeament with him.

Deception works both ways, is there God or not? You could study & research what is told in the Bible with a nonjudgemental open mind sincerely wanting to discern truth from fantasy, or hold it in your mind you are reading fantasy. Whichever way you choose, be honest with yourself, 'has what is in the Bible, & studied, proven there is not God our creator, or proven to you the Bible is deceptive fiction of there being a creator God?

I used to watch him every Sunday when I was young. Matter of fact, I was just thinking about him.

If you want to donate to a TV preacher/megachurch, go right ahead.
But I do think that if it weren't for being under the legal umbrella of religion, some would be hauled into court as hucksters, and swindlers. I heard one TV preacher claim that whatever you donated, in 86 days you would receive a windfall of 86 times what you gave.
If someone claimed the same thing on Wall Street, you'd get an all expense paid trip to Leavenworth Prison.
BTW. I could never understand why God needed cash.

86 days?! for real? That is so ridiculous, I'm surprised he had the gall to make that claim--keep a straight face.

That's been a big problem in the Christian community is that these "Prosperity preachers" who claimed that if you follow God's command you will be wealthy beyond belief.

The problem is is that there have been so many of them and they have all shown their true colors at times where it's obvious that they're in it for the cash and not for the actual religious reason that they should be.

To me it snacks up something like Amway where a few people make big money at the top but the rest of the people at the bottom just suffer in toil and don't end up any better from being associated with the company or in this case Church.

Many writers of the Bible gave their lives for their faith, and to what end unless they believed. I cannot see any motive for deception.

Yes - rightly or wrongly there are people who gave their lives for their beliefs (christian or otherwise)

That clearly isnt these tele-evangalists who are living the good life on suckers' donations. They make a mockery of genuine religion.

What is a genuine religion besides it being a business to gain power and assets for the propitiation of religion?

The religion started by Jesus where members are instructed to care for the sick and feed the hungry. Where a rich man is told he will never get to Heaven if he doesn't give his wealth away and all are told to love others, even the leper and the foreigner.

We should never let a few crooked TV personalities define this wonderful 2000 year old religion for us.

God came about as a means to give merit to the mysteries of the world that humans have yet to find the answers to.
