Here you go:

I always had to read bedtime stories to my children. Favourite ones were from books by Richard Scarry.

The BBC had a long running series of stories by and / or read by celebrities, including the then Prince Charles.
It was called Jackanory , as in the rhyme

'll tell you a story of Jackanory,
and now my story's begun,
I'll tell you another of Jack and his brother
and now my story is done.
