We are heading to Canbera for a month in July ( it’s Mid winter in Australia then ) so we are maybe going to take a day trip to the snow fields while in ….Australian capitol territory ( Canbera )

For any non Aussies canbera Is the Capitol city of Aust

Being born in Tasmania, snow was a regular event every winter. One of the reasons I moved to Perth. Too cold. 🙂

I know you are all on the West Coast of Oz and the temperatures have been extreme. I'm on the East Coast and that terrible hot weather is heading our way. Should be here by Sunday. Hate the hot weather especially as we grow older. I usually head for the larger shopping centres and stay there for about 4 hours catching up with friends.

Similarly I wanted to get as far from NZ as I could, the wife talked me out of going to Canada as she thought we'd have better prospects in Australia at the time.
I'm having trouble believing the temperature reading in my car, but it definitely read 44 C on arrival at work, it was only 41 when I left home by the coast.
 
One reason I enjoy reading these posts from AUS is that I am living in Tucson, Arizona.
We have months of greater than 100 and some 105-120 in other parts of our state.

It is of course winter here now, and I am reveling in the cooler temps from summer; seeing your posts reminds me to enjoy this cool weather while it lasts...because: SUMMER is coming!

Where is there a LOW humidity (less than 30%, some mountains (greater than 4,000 ft altitude, in Australia?

Yes, a stinker is heading for eastern Australia in a couple of days.

It's not so much how hot it is on any particular day; it is whether or not there is any relief at night, and for how long the heat wave hangs around.
 
I can remember, when we were children, those heat-waves in December and January, they were shockers, sometimes going on for days, but when it broke and that Southerly buster hit, we would all run out and shout, "Here comes the Southerly Buster" and the temperature would drop many degrees in about half an hour. They don't seem to come any more.
 
I don’t know how we survived extreme hot summers without even a fan when I was a youngster and living in a extremely hot dry desert like conditions in New South Wales ( Australia) ( we would only get rain once or twice a year ) then the place would flood in areas due to it being so dry
Wed drag our old waggers out on the tiny patch of weeds / grass we calked the front lawn abs sleep out there ….
and of course there was heaps of mozzies that came from the mines waste water swamps
 
I live in the middle of Canada and we have the opposite problem of heat; we have cold. I'm not kidding. It was -27 C last night. I went and did some shopping this morning and it feels strange to breath in ice cold air.

Lots of folks talk about the concept of global warning but it's pretty hard to get excited about global warming when the temperature outside is -27 C. It's not that I doubt the concept of global warming; its just far from my mind as I put on my toque and gloves and run from my car to the next store. Brrrrrrrrrrr!
