The ten most corrupt countries are no surprise given that they are among the poorest of countries without strong governance and rule of law.
I wonder whether the map of the US showing conviction rates is a reflection of the same factors - poverty and poor governance?
If not, I wonder what might be the causes? Any ideas?
As a side issue, we are up to our eyeballs in inquiries into corruption in NSW and it goes to very high levels of politics, unions and business. Arrogance and greed seem to be the common factor. We have the laws but some people act as if they are just for other people. Fortunately we have a standing commission against corruption that has very strong powers to collect evidence and bring these people to account.
