Tesla stock downgraded; Musk's behavior to blame

Nevertheless, Ford and GM both saw steep drops in their share prices. Tesla's was a little steeper due to the Musk/Twitter factor. Will be interesting to see what happens this year. I own both Tesla and Ford and hope they both do well.
Yes, think once the supply chain and chip issues get resolved we will see a big difference. Used to be ool to buy Ford at or below 9 bucks and sold it at 17 or 20 bucks. Not much have changed on their stock except when they put good press out and deliver hot back orders. They say you can't find a Maverick, period:

Today, I'll be driving my Mitsubishi Outlander Sport to work. Then I'll be driving my Mitsubishi Outlander Sport back home. :)
I know. I know. I won't be riding my Harley Davidson 1200C Sportster today because it is too cold, but as soon as it warms up to at least 75 I'll be riding that Harley Davidson 1200C Sportster.

What? Oh, it's Corona Yellow Pearl. Thanks for asking.

Not sure why some of the posters on here have such a boner for Elon Musk. Weird.

In the last three years, Tesla shares have gone from $28.50 (Dec 30, 2019) to a high of about $418 to the current price of about $115. There was a five-for-one split in there somewhere as well.

Musk has faced some similarly awful situations in the past. It will be interesting to see if he rebounds from this one. I hope he does as we own a hundred shares and are down a lot.
Both SpaceX and Tesla where on the edge folding in their early years.

They above people may be right. Or they may be wrong.

In 2019 many analysts were predicting that by the end of Summer Tesla would have either folded up and gone away, or been sold to a major automaker like GM or VW. Short sellers had a field day betting that the stock would fall . The company stayed alive and prospered. The short sellers got taken out to the woodshed where they and a lot of their money were separated from each other.

I think it is likely that the falling price of Tesla is partly caused by
1.) the falling stock market in general
2.) the reality that the supporting infrastructure to charge EVs is probably a lot farther off than many hoped
3.) some of Mr. Musk's quirky behaviors - well amplified by the news media - raise doubts about his judgement.

Overall, I have no idea what will happen. Your guess is as good as mine. I stopped buying individual company stocks years ago. Thankfully, I am smart enough to know that I don't know.

For the most part I've stopped buying individual stocks...have etf's instead . Do like the energy sector so looking at a couple long hold energy ones. Think you are right on about Tesla, we'll see when Ford gets up and running. This big energy shift will definitely take longer than expected...can't just press two buttons and its done, after all.

Tesla Model Y is now the best-selling car in all of Europe
Tesla Model Y became the best-selling car in all of Europe in November. It’s for the second time, and not just for electric vehicles, but all cars.

Over the years, Tesla’s vehicles have often become the best-selling vehicles in certain European markets.

However, it never topped the list of best-selling cars in the entire European continent until this September when it took over the continent.

Gas prices are quite a bit higher in Europe than in the U.S., which might explain Tesla's popularity there.

Grrrrr

Tesla has been overvalued for a few years. Now it will swing back to a more rational rate. Despite the critics, Tesla still has the best EV car for the dollar, IMHO. That may change as more new EV cars come on the market. I won't be buying an EV anytime soon so I will let others lead the way.

The technology is fairly simple. You just need a battery to power the motor and off you go! The impediment has always been battery technology, but that's changing rapidly. You can see that in your phone battery. It used to take all night to charge your phone, but now it only takes an hour, and the battery lasts longer. And batteries are getting cheaper, too!

We're to the point where electric cars are feasible for some commuters, but perhaps not so much for someone who drives a lot during the day. They take too long to charge and don't last long enough for it to be practical, but give it a few more years and it will be so. Electric cars are the technology of the future. Good riddance to gas powered cars!
I like them, but there'll always be the problem of reduced battery performance in cold weather. This is a problem of physics and no matter how good the lithium ion batteries get, their performance will be reduced by a constant percentage.

This is a very serious problem.

Has anyone had a ride in a Tesla? I haven’t. Had read some complaints that they weren’t comfortable but that may just be the fit for that person. No car is perfect for everyone. Lots of power and nice and quiet.

I never rode in one, but I sat in one that was on display. It was what I would expect from a high end car. I'd be quite happy to own one, but I can't justify it financially. I'll probably be long gone before such vehicles are affordable.

Son's neighbors - friends, in Ohio got 2 Teslas - one for hub and wife...wife sent her's back, didn't care for it at all.

They also take longer to charge in cold weather.
The Idaho National Laboratory study found that at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, an EV battery took in 36% less energy than when the battery was charged for the same amount of time at 77 degrees Fahrenheit – this means the colder the weather, the more time the battery needed to charge.

Apparently, Teslas are pretty safe vehicles (aside from them catching fire). A Tesla in California plunged 250 feet off a cliff and all 4 occupants survived. The two adults in the front only sustained minor injuries and the two children in the back seats were unscathed.
https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/03/us/tesla-crash-cliff-california-cec/index.html
UPDATE: Turns out the driver intentionally drove off the cliff and has been arrested for attempted murder! Yikes!

Rode in a new Tesla, for a few minutes in town, good acceleration, quiet,

but, trim, inside and outside looks cheap, plasticity, instrument panel was hard to use and not ergonomic.

With highly reactive lithium battery, and composite, carbon fiber body, perhaps less sur vivable in a highway collision.

just my impressions

Jon

Under no circumstances would I buy a Tesla. It has nothing to do with the guy being a jerk. I will continue to stick with my tried and true brands: Honda and Toyota. If I want to change to something more environmentally friendly, buying a scaled down ( not fully loaded) hybrid from one of them is the way to go.

I don't do individual stocks. So if I'm invested in Tesla, it's because a fund manager thinks it was wise.

Could you tell me why you think he is a jerk? I'm just asking. Can you maybe repeat one thing he said that offends you?
I'm just trying to understand why people hate him so much, because I seem to only see the good he is doing in the world.

I like the old gas engine vehicles, personally. and think the world will go to "anti-gravity" vehicles in the not far future, so electric
cars will be short-lived, but this man has hired people with creative intelligence in all areas who are engaging in phenomenal,
innovating pursuits.

Enjoying being the self-made most wealthy man in the world a bit too much? :^)

So, You're jealous of him? I don't understand.
You saw the smiley, right?

But to directly answer your question I think that he's a very public type A male, and while I'd never do what he's doing in expressing himself, I think it's his prerogative to do just as he's doing. I don't see it as personally offensive (it's actually kinda funny, very often) but I can see where other reasonable people might be offended, at least in matters of personal style--and the nominally progressive folk out there, I could see where they'd go apoplectic. He is as un-PC as possible.

So my smiley statement would apply to why *they'd* not like him.
