Unbelievable. That is not how universities are supposed to treat academics who are leaders or experts in their field.

A student objects to something the lecturer says and snitches on her and she is suspended pending dismissal, and no-one knows exactly what was said that was so egregious? Really!!!

Academic freedom is respected for very good reasons. That is how truth is ultimately arrived at.

After retiring I taught for 8 years at the University and would have been shocked if this ever happened. Universities should be beacons of free speech and exploring different perspectives.

I agree with your sentiments regarding this situation and I am certainly not conversant with the ins and outs of university legislation as it applies in USA and various states. My one comment atm would be that IF the lecturer had 'defamed' anyone in the state then perhaps the university and the lecturer could be required to explain the situation firstly. Secondly there may very well be a "defamation" piece of legislation that can be enacted by the university in such cases. I would also query whether the university in question could be held negligently responsible in law by the particular State for 'defamation of character" towards other staff etc?? Surely you just can't shout of your mouth about anyone in the state without action being taken and questions asked??
