Texas flood...anyone nearby?

My son, his ex and their two kids live in Texas near Austin. I hear from my son that they are up in Temple. I worry, obviously, but not too, too much. Both my son and ex-DIL are both former marines and my son is an ex-coastie on top of that. They have lots of survival skills and so do their kids.

I’m trying to stay out of their hair during the current weather badness. Don’t want to distract them right now, so I have no details to offer.

Yes, I am here but was lucky enough to miss any damage this time. A few years ago I had a giant tree come right out of the ground, what a mess ripped my electrical box to shreds. Took out power lines for my street and the street behind me. @dseag2 and @Ken N Tx are also in the area. I hoped they fared well, dseag2 is in an area that really got soaked.

Weather events happen everywhere. Texas is a great place to live, there are so many choices.
The coast, the hill country, the dry desert areas. In any place you will find great people, food and scenery. You don't even have to leave the state for any kind of vacation, you can find it all here!!

Daught, hurricanes, tornados, flash floods, sink holes doesn't make Texas a carefree area to live. Is there someplace in the US that doesn't have Texas weather, earthquakes, or any other terrible events?
I've been thinking the same thing. In fact, I posted about how climate change should be considered when moving to a new state. I may jinx it, but in the 16 years we've lived in Dallas we've had a tornado come close but not hit us, and we were recently in a drought but are now mostly out of it due to the rain. Dallas doesn't experience hurricanes because we are far north of the coast. Houston experiences hurricanes. As @Blessed mentioned, Dallas is a great city, very cosmopolitan with lots to do and friendly people. We have very hot summers, but they aren't typically humid so they are tolerable.

We left South Florida due to getting hit by numerous hurricanes. Days without power in sweltering weather, along with exterior home damage. You spend days preparing for a hurricane in Florida, then if it doesn't hit you've wasted your time. If it does hit, you are miserable. Even Tropical Storms flooded out areas. I'll take the sporadic tornado, hearing the tornado sirens, then hiding in the closet under a blanket and emerging safe any day.

I wouldn't move to the Southwest because they are in a severe drought, and in 2023 water rationing will begin in AZ and NM. CA is exempt at the present time but they are predicted to have severe flash flooding sometime in the next few decades.

Not sure where I could move that won't be experiencing natural disasters sometime in the future. It all seems to be anyone's guess these days.
