Texas, Mississippi See Lowest COVID Cases in Almost a Year 1 Month After Lifting Mask Mandate

Maybe they know what's best for their own state. Massachusetts loves to give advice but their record on Covid is awful. Same with New York.

Oh. Forgot about that. Yes, we were snowed in and a lot lost power in Mississippi as well. Viruses are actually frozen for storage in research facilities and generally (C19 included) have a shorter lifespan in the heat so the freeze theoretically would've increased numbers especially when you take into account that everyone was indoors.

Though viruses generally have a shorter lifespan outside a host in the heat, last year, Mississippi experienced its first peak in July. That's when we started heading indoors due for AC (June was unseasonably cool last year), then cases began to drop when weather got nice in the fall. Once it got cold enough to need heat frequently, we peaked again.

I think the pattern for us looks as that when it's pretty weather and people are outdoors more, the numbers go down. Guess we'll see this next summer and winter though I pray not ...pray the vaccine is effective and we've got the worst behind us!

Everyone pretty much has been traveling and attending events for a month now ...but the majority of people in Mississippi are still wearing masks ...at least where I live in rural MS and metro Jackson where I travel for work. Am hoping to see for myself what they're doing on the coast mighty soon. :)
 
Congratulations to Texas and Mississippi. I hope that they're able to continue to keep the low infection rates. However even though there are no longer any state wide mask mandates some businesses are still requiring masks. I haven't been able to find an article that gives an estimate of the percentages of businesses which are doing so. I also wonder how many businesses are running at lower capacity even though they're allowed to operate at 100% capacity.

If they remain successful it will be great to learn what was done and apply that to other areas so the restrictions can be eased.

Ya know, you may have something there. I don't know if Covid is susceptible to be killed by freezing. Freezing does kill germs, and viruses. So if all outside surfaces are virus free, that's one huge source of contamination eliminated.

Viruses are preserved by freezing. High heat deactivates them, but even that's got to be up there.

I hope we are able keep rates low as well! Like I said above, I live in a rural area and work in the Jackson metro area; in these two areas, most people are still wearing masks indoors even when businesses don't require them. It's become good manners to wear a mask indoors.
