Thank you Tom Smothers, R.I.P.

"Tom Smothers, the countercultural comedy icon admired for the 1960s variety program he created and hosted with his younger brother, Dick, and for the tenacity he displayed in frequent clashes with CBS censors, has died. He was 86.

Smothers died Tuesday at his home in Santa Rosa, California, after a battle with cancer, his brother announced in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter by the National Comedy Center.

“Tom was not only the loving older brother that everyone would want in their life, he was a one-of-a-kind creative partner,” Dick, 84, said. “I am forever grateful to have spent a lifetime together with him, on and off stage, for over 60 years." "

In the final it was 2 brothers that didn't kill each other, well sort a ! haha

Most likely it was, "Tommy you Killen me!" and "Dicky you Killen me!"

I always thought Tom was so cute, looks and actions. May he R.I.P. I found this and it's too funny. Talk about saying "it's complicated" when it comes to relationships! :ROFLMAO:

Their father died in a Japanese POW camp in 1945.

It might explain why they were so critical of the Vietnam War.

Tom Played guitar on the recording of John Lennon's Give Peace A Chance.
This came up today in my YouTube feed.
If you watch carefully, you'll see Tommy Smothers throughout the video and at one point, he's in bed alongside John and Yoko.

Their comedy in some ways was reminiscent of Abbott and Costello, with Tom playing the naive, slower-witted partner to brother Dick’s knowledgeable and worldly guide. Watching their political comedic barbs on their 60’s show felt wildly subversive at the time!

In reality, Tommy could do it all…as comedian, singer, dancer, and he had a surprising athleticism as well! His Yo-Yo man persona was a delight, reflecting his versatility wrapped in humor. Even when mute, he could be a great physical comedian… 😸

In comedy teams, the straight man was always paid more than the clown. Abbott earned more money than little Lou. I call him little Lou as that is what Bud cried out loud after hearing Lou died. I was nine. I'll never forget how hard he cried "Little Lou, Little Lou,"
