Hi I am Donna in California. I am slowly retiring from my job of 46 years. The boss is retiring and selling the business and my favorite people I have worked with for years are retiring, too., so I decided it was time to go and let the younger people do the work. One of the other retiring people said he had done what he was supposed to do all his life, school work , child raising, home buying , military service and now he was going to stop and do exactly what he wants to do every day!. I 'm thinking it sounds good to me, too.The office will not be the same after my old friends are gone. I am 73 and have never been a stay at home wife or mother. I think it is high time I saw what that was like before I get too old...

Lately I've been just asking myself what do I want to do at home. Well first I want to cook! I've done the quick after work menus and I think it will be fun to plan and shop and try new gourmet things. I plan to join some sort of exercise group and maybe a book club. I love reading and have never had time in evenings to drag my self out to a book club meeting. I'm hoping not to end up with IGAD ( I got all day disease) and really accomplish things that I have always wanted to have time for. How are you all coping with the changes?

Hi Donna! Congratulations on your retirement, hope you enjoy it to the fullest! Wasn't anything to cope with for me, I looked forward to it and embraced it completely, relax when I want to, do things when I feel like it, no more setting alarm clocks or punching time clocks....all is good in retirement land!

Hi Donna,
Congrats on your retirement and your new-found freedom to do the things you mentioned above! The only adjusting will be getting used to doing stuff when and if you feel like it! :)

Welcome to the best part of life. Retirement is what you make of it, and if you follow your dreams, the days go by all too fast. Personally, I wouldn't want to go back to work for twice the pay...and I had a great job.

I've been trying my hand at cooking since I retired and having some fun with it. Also joined a gym and met some nice folks there.

Welcome aboard and have fun.. :)

Welcome Donna. It' nice to do what you want when you want and to not do what you don't want when you don't want, too...lol
