That Drive-Thru Order May Contain More Than You Bargained For.

Consumer Reports finds excessive amounts of 'forever chemicals' in some fast-food wrappers.

You might want to dump those Mickey D's fries onto a plate as soon as you get home. Consumer Reports released an analysis Thursday on packaging at fast-food restaurants and supermarket chains, with a concerning find: Many of the wrappers that hold the fare we pick up at the drive-thru and grocery store are rife with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), aka "forever chemicals," reports the Hill.

It is funny to me............ not that restaurants use these items.......... but people seem oblivious even after reading a thing like this they will go back and buy again tomorrow.....
the price of having that cup some left in a car for a week or a day or two on a coffee table and not falling apart and spilling contents all over .......... is the paper is coated with a chemical or thin plastic....
it is like all those whom replaced plastic straws with paper then seem shocked they denigrated shortly....
cafeteria at a place i worked had utensils made from corn starch ... stir your HOT soup a few times spoon started to fall apart ... they finally went back to plastic

there are a few places that have basic bags and paper and you see the grease on the bag ...is a constant reminder you are about to eat something you probably shouldn't ......

many things in our convenience oriented world are a lot of waste or environmental toxic items...... telling people is like being part of the band on the Titanic.

A friend of mine texted me a link to this article about microplastics being found in people's blood samples. It was a very small sampling of only 22 volunteers and microplastics were found in 17 of them. The survey will expand to encompass many more but the ramifications are concerning, since these plastics can cause damage to human cells. According to the article referencing another study: "A recent study found that microplastics can latch on to the outer membranes of red blood cells and may limit their ability to transport oxygen. The particles have also been found in the placentas of pregnant women, and in pregnant rats they pass rapidly through the lungs into the hearts, brains and other organs of the foetuses."

That's only a start. Everyone is exposed to small amounts of Strontium-90, since it is widely dispersed in the environment and the food chain. Strontium-90 was widely dispersed in the 1950's and 1960's in fallout. from the atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons. Strontium-90 is also found in waste from nuclear reactors.

Strontium-90 behaves like calcium in the human body and tends to deposit in bone and blood forming tissue (bone marrow). Thus, strontium- 90 is referred to as a "bone seeker," and exposure will increase the risk for several diseases including bone cancer, cancer of the soft tissue near the bone, and leukemia.

I quit stopping at McDonald's when I noticed that I would have stomach problems about two hours after eating there......

PFAS - just the flavor of the month. Far more widespread and more harmful to the human body is Bisphenol-A (BPA) but it will not be banned or even widely discussed as it would be too disruptive to the economy. Money rules.

"BPA is a chemical that has been used to harden plastics for more than 40 years. It's everywhere. It's in medical devices, compact discs, dental sealants, water bottles, the lining of canned foods and drinks, and many other products. More than 90% of us have BPA in our bodies right now." No surprises, I don't think anybody expects health food here!

A garbage can, or maybe the dog's dish might be better...
I have not eaten at a fast food place in well over 10 years unless you count Panera Bread Company as a fast food place. It is not only the wrappers, but the quality of the food.

I had heard of this with pizza boxes. It would make sense that it's all kinds of other wrappers also.

Damn plastic is everywhere and so many things we buy. I understand we actually consume it.

The "Forever Chemicals" are the healthiest part of the meal.
