That Was Really Dumb

My Dad and I were watching Tarzan one Saturday when I was a kid. I was quite a swimmer in those days and I made a snide remark about Tarzan’s abilities swimming in a swamp. Dad replies, “That’s Johnny Weissmuller, an Olympic gold medalist in swimming!” Oops.

I was a volunteer at Gettysburg (US civil war battle site, 1860s ), and got to know the guides. They told stories about the questions visitors asked. A guide was describing the battle between Yanks and Rebs to some visitors. One asked, "Which way did the German tanks come from?"

During my traveling days I spent many nights at the Wakulla Springs Lodge. Some of Weissmuller's Tarzan movies were filmed at Wakulla Springs. It's a beautiful area.

I was with a young lady in Skagway, Alaska, which is a touristy town... except for winter. But it was now late summer. We were both pretty experienced hikers & campers. Early afternoon, we found a fairly wide trail just outside of town, trees on either side, and started walking on it. Without any gear at all.

We met another young lady and she had very recently spotted, from a distance, a grizzly on this trail. It had moved on maybe 10 minutes before. She resumed walking toward town. My companion & I found the grizzly's tracks, and we excitedly resumed walking along the trail toward where it had gone. We walked for a while but failed to spot it ourselves.

Then I guess it dawned on us what we were doing, and we stopped... and turned back... whew! here we were with no rifle, no bear spray, no loud-noise maker.

No, we were neither drunk nor stoned. Unscathed, we lived to ponder our foolish urge.

I don't know if this is dumb or really quite logical, but my wife has always said 'extracircular' rather than extracurricular.

Her reasoning? Outside hobbies and interests make you a more well rounded person. Hense, extracircular.

Dumb, yeah I’d say so. Recently put my iPhone on top of car, to help my wife, and drove off. A very expensive dumb.

That's so easy to do. I have a personal rule because I'm getting more and more absent minded. Always, and I mean always keep wallet, keys, and cell phone on my person. I've never driven off without myself in the car!

Yeah, I hear you OldFeller. I usually do the same as you, but instead of putting phone in pocket..I set it on the car roof..

Did you try asking about it on a local Chat group. I see at least one found a week. Sorry, none are yours pappy.

Well my laatest senior moment was this morning....thougt for
some reason that I needed to put the NEW calendar up....so I
did that, and some time later realized that I still needed this
December month, so had to put the old one back on the wall...!!!!

Two things I find it hard to do without...wall calendar and wall clock . My kids once bought me a clock with a dial but also a date display. That didn't work more than a year.
I wonder if young people keep a wall calendar?
