The 1960 Time Machine Movie

This has always been one of my all time favorite science fiction movies. Also in my list of 10 favorite movies for years. My actual favorite sci fi movie for quite awhile. I had it on both VHS and DVD.

It always bothered me that the movies adapted from this book always paint the Eloi as so positive and the Morlocks so negatively. They are both degenerate, each having lost important things as the divide between producers and consumers widened over time.

Well, the 60s version is much more enjoyable the latest remake.
The 2002 version starts out on a tragically sad note that sets the tone for the whole movie. It's less an adventure and more a morose tale of a broken-hearted Hardegan seeking answers that have little to do with science.

And the history of the Morlocks and Elois was ignored in this version. The bit about the moon falling was ridiculous, and it hardly explained their evolution.

When I was a kid, the farm next to ours raised little white lambs to be sold for their meat. The Elois in the original movie reminded me of them.

I've seen clumsy comparisons made with the urban vs. rural political divide too. More in the Canadian press than in the U.S.
