The Beauty of Crows

View attachment 478181

This was Crow-Man. He was here from about 2013 until winter of 2024. He loved and watched over my Tennessee Walker with metabolic issues. When Joker passed, Crow-Man visited his grave for three days.

I had hoped I would be able to lay him to rest with Joker, but it wasn’t to be.

Two pair have appeared since his passing, but they keep their distance.

Thank you for sharing that. We could learn so much from the animals.

I've never had a crow, but I've owned several doves over the years. There's a difference in their visual fields. I knew that part, but wasn't sure why, so I just looked it up, and found this:

Crows have binocular vision, with eyes positioned more forward, which helps them judge distances and see what's directly in front. They are known to watch people and learn when to interpret direct eye contact as a potential threat.

Doves have monocular vision, with eyes positioned more on the sides of their heads, giving them wide peripheral vision but less depth perception directly ahead. To see something in front of them more clearly, they turn their head to the side, to use one eye at a time (monocular vision) for a clearer view.

So nice to see you take advantage of the ease at which we can get information. It beats taking a bus and walking six blocks to the library.

good luck with that philosphy
I don't want to encourage a word fire on my nice thread which is meant to share appreciation of crows and other corvids. I mean I really don't want that.

But you're going to need a better response than this if you want to close the door you've opened. Antoli is almost certainly going to come back with something articulate and well thought out, probably telling you that he doesn't need luck because what he's said here isn't a philosophy, but the simple truth of things.

If you meant to say that living in the world with the understanding that humans are the ones destroying it is difficult and one would need luck living with that knowledge, then say that.

Actually, what are you saying here? Did you just want to say you and/or your friends enjoy killing crows? In which case, thanks for sharing. Can we get back to enjoying the beauty of crows now.

good luck with that philosphy

It isn’t a philosophy, it’s a factual description. No other species causes global habitat destruction, mass extinctions, climate alteration, and pollution on this scale, then labels the remaining wildlife as “pests” for surviving the damage. That’s not opinion, it’s biology.

Crows are fun to watch as they search for food. They seldom bother our two feeders, but when they do, the little birds stay and eat with them. I used to hear how crows would kill the small birds, like sparrows and wrens for food.
Yes, crows are omnivores, like people. I don't like the thought of it, but they are just surviving.

This was in February 2022, when I lost my precious Joker. You can see where his grave is. Slightly to the right you can see the crow who came and stood on his grave for three days. That is the crow that lived at least 14 or 15 years of his life here.

Wow. That is inspiring. This is the sort of connection that helps me keep my faith in the Universe and in the power and mystery of our natural world. ❤️ Thank you for sharing it.
