The Best Creamiest Baked Mashed Potatoes

That looks very similar to what I make from time to time. Of course we have different varieties of potatoes but the results are the same.
What I was wondering is, does anyone use a potato 'ricer' instead of mashing the tatties ?

Mashed potato is the perfect way to top off a shepherd's pie. It's called Shepherd's pie because the meat used is lamb. When beef is substituted it becomes cottage pie. And if you don't eat meat at all, it's just as good with a medley of vegetables. To get the surface effect on the mash, brush over with melted butter or butter substitute and place under the grill.

Not ever having heard the term, potato ricer, I looked it up. Is this it?
No, I have not used one but you can get a similar effect with a cheese
grater, which is what I do.
