The Big Deal of Misdfortune

As Mark Twain once said, "There are three kinds of lies. Lies, D****ed lies, and Statistics."

Take facts out of context, and one can spin numbers in all kinds of directions. I still remember 50 years ago, reading an article where a researcher cautioned about why scientists insist upon multiple independent studies before accepting an example of new-to-the-world data as actual fact(s):

He said, "80% of people who had heart attacks have chewed gum at some point in their lives, beforehand. Does that mean chewing gum = heart attacks?"
