Has anyone seen it or are you planning to see it? We saw it today. I saw the original and remember how touching it was. The cast in the new one is stellar and it is adapted from the play so there are some great songs in it. My partner is especially critical of movies and we both agreed it was great.

And it was still very touching.

I must admit I do not want to see the remake. I enjoyed the first so much, the actors were wonderful, the cinematography was exceptional and I just don't want anything to change the memory of the first.

There are some movies that should not be redone in my opinion and this is one of them,

I understand. Yes, the first one was really excellent and touching. I think I cried my eyes out during the original. This one was touching, but musicals tend to be less so. We still enjoyed it.

I remember the reaction from many black people when it aired in 1985. It was very controversial. The issues they brought up were addressed again with "Black Lives Matter". The Color Purple being made into a musical seems really weird to me. It was such a different mood in the first one...and the time was so different. I guess now we can just change the mood of what we are watching as long as it sells. I don't like musicals so I will pass on this one. I couldn't watch it anyway. No TV....or subscriptions.
