The cost of reopening the economy, in lives

The media never write articles about the cost of not reopening the economy. Imagine if you were a hairdresser. They are almost all self-employed and rent space at a salon. They've had zero income for 6 weeks. Zero. Most people don't have much of a nest egg to fall back on. It would be nice if all jobs were able to be done from home, but that's not the case. The world can't just stop dead in its tracks until there's a vaccine. And articles like this are just more fear mongering and make projections that may be wildly off base. But thanks for sharing.
 

The original ideas of closing the economy, flattening the curve, etc... were done to prevent the virus from overwhelming the nation's hospital system and that appears to have been accomplished.

I agree that it's time to begin reopening the economy but I do have concerns that some people will take that as a sign that we are now safe, the crisis has passed, etc...

We all need to continue to protect ourselves and each other by continuing the basic common-sense practices that helped the nation get to this point and that will eventually help us return to normal.

Stay home if you can, continue to social distance, wash your hands, wear a mask, and be good for goodness sake! ;)

Allot of folks think, OK I'll just stay at home & collect my FED check....I'll be fine. IMO, they don't realize that some day that well will run dry. Then there are those that can work from home, and just flat-out do not care about those that cannot.

And once again, IMO....it will all go away ....sometime after November.
 
It's behaving like we know what this virus is capable of. If people want to risk it is one thing but if that risk results in an exponential explosion of new infections then what is the next idea? If you leave crowd behavior in the hands of the crowds you are begging for trouble.
One more thing to add. The medical professionals all over the world are being stretched and stressed to the max and to ignore how tough this is on them is unforgivable. If reopening fails and results in even as higher ratio of cases who is going to care for them? Answer: Probably no one. We need to help them in every way we can so if socializing is more important than helping those that are helping us then it is time to shuffle your priorities.

We are in a real time of Uncertainty with this virus. We NEED the economy to start opening back up, in order to avoid a massive recession, But, at the same time, there is the ever present danger of a major resurgence of this illness....without any treatment/cure. It's a real "damned of you do, damned if you don't" situation....unlike anything we have had to contend with.

The ONLY sensible approach, for the immediate future, seems to be for Everyone to exercise good Common Sense, and limit their exposure, as much as possible. Avoid crowds, practice good hygiene, and....OMG...wear a face mask when going to the stores, etc.
 
What's nice is I called my mechanic today and says he'll look at my car Thursday. I'd usually get the We're Really Busy routine and have to wait two weeks for an appointment. None of that Can You Drop it Off Wednesday Evening stuff either. I am quite ecstatic.
