The Cost of your Shop...1970s

My shopping in 1970 was either at the military base grocery store where items came in the strangest sizes. Milk only came in quarts but horseradish also came only in quarts ( do you know how long it takes to use a QUART of horseradish??? Cooking oil and pancake syrup only came in gallon glass jugs.

You had to get a "permit" to buys men's white t-shirts or razor blades and your toilet paper purchases had to be signed for (my husband was called in twice because I made "excessive" TP purchases......I had salmonella for a while and, believe me, excessive toilet paper was called for!).

The other shopping was done at the bazaar, where they didn't give a darn what you bought but toilet paper wasn't available.

I didn't do much grocery shopping in 1970. I was still in high school. Although I did occasionally go shopping with my mother and grandmother.
