The Cowboy and the Lady
Song by John Denver

In the airport lounge she sat in a marlena dietrich hat
The grandest lady i had ever seen
Outside the heavy rains had grounded all the planes
So i asked her if she'd like some company

In my rhinestone studded suit, my cowboy hat and boots
I must have been a sight for her to see
But she said, "pull up a chair, " as she fumbled with her hair
A more unlikely pair you'll never see

I was mogen david wine, she was chablis fifty-nine
But there we sat, the cowboy and the lady
She was evenings at the opera and summers in paree
I was grand ole opry, nashville, tennessee

The cowboy and the lady
As diff'rent as could be
But it seemed so right that rainy night
In tennessee

Then somewhere in between her Harvey's Bristol creme
And the seven beers i ordered for the lady
We somehow came together for a night of stormy weather
Now there's a bit of class in this old cowboy
And there's a little bit of cowboy in the lady

The cowboy and the lady
As diff'rent as could be
But it seemed so right that rainy night
In tennessee

We somehow came together for a night of stormy weather
Now there's a bit of class in this old cowboy
And there's a little bit of cowboy in the lady

And a third, along with the lyrics:

I know how it feels to be head over heels
To be lost in true love and the light of the moon
When everything seems to be coming up roses,
Every word seems to be rhyming with June
And suddenly all of your dreams have come true,
Happiness lives in your heart
Then out of nowhere, one becomes two,
And everything seems to be falling apart

Is it love?
When your heart feels like it's broken
Is it love?
And you just can't take anymore
Is it love?
When there's nothing that's left to be spoken
Is it love?
And there's nothing worth listening for
Is it love?

I know what it means to get caught up in dreams
And in prayers that are answered with each passing day
When loving and laughter are birds of a feather,
And sharing and caring just one simple way
You know you'll never be all alone,
Someone will always be near
Then you turn around and your best friend is gone,
Oh where do they go when they just disappear?

Is it love?
When your heart feels like it's broken
Is it love?
And you just can't take anymore
Is it love?
When the good times have all been forgotten
Is it love?
And you fear there won't be any more
Is it love?

There's no answer, there seems to be nothing to say
In your anger, would you even hear anyway
It was magic, but somehow you've broken the spell
It was heaven, but somehow it's turned into hell
Is it love?
When you know that your heart has been broken
Is it love?
And you just can't take it anymore
Is it love?
When you feel more than you could imagine
Is it love?
Now there's nothing that's worth living for
Is it love?
Is it love?
Another expression of love
You could be falling in love
I wanna be in love

A song you dont hear sung much these days:

THE BREACH OF PROMISE CASE.

The Judge took his scat in the court-house one day,
A nice "breach of promise" to hear,
The plaintiff stepped up with a veil round her face,
A lovely and blushing young dear,
She looked at the jury with a shy, loving glance,
Then Mailed at the counselor below.
Then, turning her sweet, pretty eyes to the judge.
She tenderly murmured, "Hello!"

Chorus.
The judge he winked at the counselor, the counselor winked at the "clerk,"
The jury passed the wink along and murmured there's a lark,
The usher winked at a copper, the copper left his seat,
And, going to the window, winked at somebody on the street.

Pray tell me the facts of your case, the judge said,
Your wrongs we are anxious to hear I'll try, my good Lord,
the sweet maiden replied,
My poor heart is broken, I fear;
The monster who wooed me he swore on his life
He'd make me his bride bye-and-bye,
he took me long walks in the moonlight alone,
And kissed me when no one was nigh.

Chorus.
So his lordship grinned at the counselor, the counselor winked at the clerk,
The jury passed the grin along and murmured there's a lark,
The usher grinned at a copper, the copper left his seat,
And, going to the window, grinned at somebody on the street.

The judge took a pinch of his fragrant rappee,
With dignity spread over his face.
You really must name him, my sweet, pretty maid,
Or we cannot proceed with this case-
The maiden then snatched the thick veil from her face.
Then smiled like a mischievous elf.
Then, turning around to the judge, cried: My Lord,
The false-hearted man is yourself.

Chorus.
So his lordship blushed at the counselor, the counselor blushed at the "clerk,"
The jury passed the blush along and murmured there's a lark,
The usher blushed at a copper, the copper left his seat,
And, going to the window, blushed at somebody on the street.

The judge reviewed the charms of the maid he once loved,
And longed her lips once more to press-
Oh, sweet, pretty maid will you marry me now?
She blushingly answered him yes;
They sent for a parson, they sent for a "Clark,"
And before one hour had tied.
They threw all the musty law-papers aside,
And each held a prayer-book instead.
Spoken-Yes, ladies and gentlemen, after a few years of separation, she
meets the villain right there in open court. And who was the Villain? Why.
don't you know? No. His lordship. And what did his lordship do?

Chorus.
His lordship tickled the counselor, the counselor tickled the "clerk,"
The jury passed the sentence and murmured there's a lark.
The usher tickled the copper, the Copper left his seat.
And, going to the window, winked at somebody on the street.

Are you a cowboy? How long it's been since yesterday? I know how it feels to be head over heels.

It has been 12 years but I know someday I will see him again maybe in the Tennesse of heaven.
Thanks for the post!!

I am a boy who likes cows, or looking after cows, so does that count, (I'm not much use wrangling, or rodeoing though! :) )?

And this one from the great man, (with some seemingly prophetic lyrics unfortunately):

I've been lately thinking about my life's time
All the things I've done, how it's been
And I can't help believing in my own mind
I know I'm gonna hate to see it end

I've seen a lot of sunshine, slept out in the rain
Spent a night or two all on my own
I've known my lady's pleasures, had myself some friends
And spent a night or two in my own home

I have to say it now, it's been a good life, all in all
It's really fine to have a chance to hang around
And lie there by the fire and watch the evening tire
While all my friends and my old lady sit and pass the pipe around

Talk of poems and prayers and promises and things that we believe in
How sweet it is to love someone, how right it is to care
How long it's been since yesterday and what about tomorrow?
What about our dreams and all the memories we share?

The days they pass so quickly now, nights are seldom long
Time around me whispers when it's cold
The changes somehow frighten me, still I have to smile
It turns me on to think of growing old

For though my life's been good to me there's still so much to do
So many things my mind's never known
I'd like to raise a family, I'd like to sail away
And dance across the mountains on the moon, yes I would

I have to say it now, it's been a good life, all in all
It's really fine to have the chance to hang around
And lie there by the fire and watch the evening tire
While all my friends and my old lady, sit and watch the sun go down

Talk of poems and prayers and promises and things that we believe in
How sweet it is to love someone, how right it is to care
How long it's been since yesterday and what about tomorrow?
What about our dreams and all the memories we share?

I've always been a fan of John Denver and never heard this song before!
