It is nearly 15 months -February 29th 2020-since i was able to attend a sporting event.
As my life revolves around sport (and concerts!) it has been sheer purgatory.
But this coming Saturday-May 29th 2021-i will be attending a game of cricket in Bristol.
Shame i still can’t watch sport in Wales but the e-ticket is printed, the weather forecast is good,i’ve checked the train and bus times, renewed my seniors railcard and it is all systems go.
Can’t wait....

But ,here in Wales.....

So at a time when crowds are back in England-and i will be in one on Saturday-here in Wales, where we do things differently, attending one of our pilot events is such a hassle i think they are deliberately designed to put people off.
Next Thursday the Welsh government is generously allowing up to 1000 people to attend the first day of my cricket teams next home game.
But several hoops have to be gone through to attend.
Firstly you have to register your interest in going( club sent me an e-mail last evening-i am one of the chosen few.We weren’t asked if we wanted to be.).At that point you will be sent two test kits in the post. You must return two negative covid tests and provide proof to the club(one on Sunday and one 24 hours before the game) and only at that point will the club issue you with an e-ticket.
This must happen even if-like me -you have been vaccinated twice.
You must take that proof in the form of an SMS message and present it at the gate to gain entry.
Once in the ground you must sit in your allocated seat in a stand that is as far from the play as it is possible to be and everything you do will be strictly controlled,Even access to the toilet.
You cannot leave the ground during the day ( meaning taking lunch at one of the nearby pubs becomes impossible) and you can’t even get up for a stroll. My arthritic knees will seize up if i have to sit down for essentially seven hours.
So i am not prepared to go through all these hoops for one day of sport.I have asked the club to give my seat to someone who is prepared to go through this hassle.
I have none of this hassle for the game i am attending in Bristol on Saturday.
If this is the future of watching sport in Wales then i doubt i will ever be doing that again.
..................
And i have just read that if you intend to holiday in Wales this Summer you must bring with you lateral flow test kits!
