The Day the Music Died.

Today, 3 Feb is the anniversary of the plane crash that took out Buddy Holly, Big Boppa and Ritchie Valens from us.

1959, so looong ago but still remember standing stunned in the schoolyard at the news.

RIP Miss American Pie.

I remember when they came to Spokane, and my mom took me and one of my school friends to watch the concert. I am not sure any more if Richie Valens was there, but definitely Buddy Holly, and the Big Bopper, as well as Buddy Knox (Party Doll), and several other singers that were popular back in that day.
We got to take our Souvenir book backstage after the show, and stood in long lines to get all the autographs, which the performers all happily signed for us.
It must have been the fall before they died that they came to Spokane, and it was even more special that i had been able to go and watch them perform after we lost them in the crash.
It seems like those days, we lost a lot of good singers in plane crashes. Jim Reeves was one of my very favorite ones, and he died in a plane crash also.

I am ashamed to have forgotten the exact day of the crash but will always remember their music and it will always live within us.

For me the day most music died or was at least on life support was late 1970s.
I did like some Disco dancing in late 70s and lots of Bee Gees but on the most part it was headed downhill.

Still listen to all of them y'all have named on cd or youtube. Elvis and all of them. Still remember that Waylon Jennings said one time he was supposed to be on that plane with Buddy and the other two but gave up his seat as one of them had a reason to go. I will have to research what happened. For many years now I cannot take the rap and heavy metal and current music. I do enjoy listening to the playing for change musicians on you tube. My "grands" music is not music to me!
