The development of "Higher" authority

Undestanding "up"and "down" is a complicated association that all develop from infancy. We grow 'up" in the world, where the sky above is limitless and is often filled with light, but the ground below is close, sometimes dirty, and can contain threats. People of authority are always higher than we are as children, and we literally and metaphorically 'look up' to them.

As babies we are laying down and our orientation is the above----upward and up. Light from windows or artificial sources typically comes down from above. We learn the source of light is "up". Those who deliver warmth, food and caresses are up there above our view, in the light. A baby is often lifted up and learns that wellbeing and happiness are up. Once babies can stand, they see things from a "higher" perspective.

This common early experience primes us to judge things that are higher as being more developed, more authoritative and better: highborn, high caste, high status, high income, your highness, and "higher" consciousness.

The word "religion"is derived from the Latin for "tied to", we. are tied to something or someone higher than us, transcending our everyday existence. ...We are in the sway of the Almighty and Superior, who looks down on us from where light begins and ends....Heaven.

The Holy Ghost is often depicted as a dove and angels as winged, shining beings of light. The ability to see upward and beyond ourselves has become connected in all cultures with what is positive and good. Many important religious events involve ascension and/or elevation. Jesus is depicted high on the cross when he is crucified on a hill outside of Jerusalem and Muhammed is lifted into the on a mythical winged horse to visit Jerusalem.

Conversely, negative concepts in religion...most notably Hell, Hades, etc.. have "downward" commutations. When we are prone or supine, we are helpless, worthless. Snakes wriggling on the ground are often associated with evil in the Bible and viewed as harmful in real life.

My point is our concept of "up and "down", "high and low" respectfully are associated with high being good and low being bad or less than good. light is good, darkness is evil etc.. We are conditioned to view the world between spectrums of 'up and down" good, bad and evil" since birth. I suggest everyone get outside and go beyond the norm and view the world as it is to you without preconceived notions of "The Good, Bad and the Ugly"

Sometimes while driving, I slow up. Other times I slow down. Not sure which is evil and which is good....

more precise what is good or bad? If you speed up or slow down according to situational conditions may determine good or bad choices
