The ease of banking today!

Not me... I refuse to pay bills online... Refuse to bank online... use an ATM or even purchase items online... My credit card info is firmly in my wallet... not on my computer. Guess I'm just an old dinosaur.. but I write checks and balance my checkbook with pen and paper.

Looks like we are a bit behind the times. I do it exactly the way you do. Always worried about the identity theft thing. The "young moderns" on here seem to think its no problem. They have me convinced, but I worry about old guy syndrome. I do an awful lot of wrong key clicking these days. I just transferred my MRD from my IRA to my checking account. At my age, its a sizable amount. I couldn't summon the courage to do it on-line. Did it by paper check deposited by hand at the bank.

Been doing this since I've lived here - 16 years. And hubby was doing it by phone before that. We have never had a problem. Ever. We make all types of payments by direct debit - aside from normal bills - we pay gym memberships, insurances, council tax, etc etc. We do EFT payments for the non normal things - like someone to fix the roof because of a storm, etc. We did that from Thailand last winter.

Everything is automatic. Nothing to do. But bank account is checked on each month to make sure everything is fine. Always is.

My feeling is, if you aren't bothered by the older method and it's working fine for you, I wouldn't worry about how others do it. Do what you are most comfortable with till you decide something else might work better for you. For many of us, the time and convenience has been a great change in way we do our banking, doesn't mean everyone has to follow suit. I know some people find the experience of going to the bank gives them a chance to interact with people in general. Whatever works for you, but, just letting you know, once you go online banking and get the hand of it, you won't want to go back. :D

I agree, April, I'm for whatever makes life easier. I've never had any problems with mine either. I would have set mine up to pay online but my internet service is too unstable so I went with auto pay.

That's fine while you can still pay by check. But they are being phased out in the UK and eventually I'm sure it will happen in the US as well.

Quicksilver, Dupe,
i am definitely with you! I don't do a lot of business online and my credit card is used only for my convenience and is paid off when the bill arrives. What I do have is a separate checking account for my healthcare-premiums can be deducted as well as my prescriptions. That takes the worry out of it, in the event I'd be laid up in the hospital or the possibility of overlooking or forgetting to pay it.
