The eye-watering price of fast food

I prefer to cook healthy meals at home, but BF does take me out for lunch/dinner sometimes because he likes to go out. So we do. No fast foods though. Restaurants are much more expensive now even though their food is better. So far we are still keeping up but I don't know what will happen if things get worse.

He'll have to get used to staying in with me and eating my food. This could get funny.

The only fast food place we have been to recently has been Chick-Fil-A.

When we plan on going out, it's to the local restaurants & not a chain. It's better food & money stays local.

I prefer cooking at home anyway. Over the years I have found recipes that can be made quick. If we've been busy, I'll pull out soups or leftovers from the freezer.

I don't eat fast food, but I do drink McDonald's coffee. Every so often I will get a fish sandwich from Arby's when they have them available. They are pretty good for fast food.

I wonder if the change to both parents working had anything to do with the increased popularity of fast food. All I remember pre teen growing up was rarely getting ice cream as a special treat at an ice cream shop.

In the 50's at 16 getting my drivers license, made going to the drive in movie possible. After the movie my date & I would go to a place call highway 51 drive in for burgers, soda & fries. Don't remember the prices but I do know I was easily able to afford what we ate.

20 years later by then there were a lot of choices for buying fast food. As parents when both my wife & I worked an occasional bucket of KFC helped to give us a break from home made meals. When occasionally out with our sons Burger King was the go to for not having to cook when we got home.

IDK. In my house when both of my parents worked full time, this started in the late sixties, I began to be responsible for supper prep. So I did. Often I prepared the whole meal myself and after we ate we had to drive into the city to visit Grandma who had just had open heart surgery. This went on for months when I was in 9th grade. But it's possible some families turned to fast food at that time because of both parents working. There was only a deli in my home town and we used that sometimes. There was no MacDonalds. We had tv dinners sometimes. We survived.

Sad thing is many parents don't know how to cook anymore. When my daughter was in high school about 10 years ago, what they called cooking class was sad. They showed them how to prepare a lot of prepackaged food. LOL, she found that insulting since she said she could everything they showed her from scratch, which she could.

We Used to partake of many of the local eateries such as McDonalds, Del Taco, El Pollo Loco, Panda Express, Arby's, etc., sadly not anymore. To pay the new prices with no elevation in quality of service or detail, no thanks. They still get the orders wrong, they have no pride in presentation (getting the contents of the sandwich what have you appropriately together instead of the meat hanging out one side and the cheese hanging out the other, etc.. No, wife isn't a huge fan of cooking but for the savings and that it's just for the two of us, she'll make the sacrifice. Don...

If you forego the signature sandwiches like the Big Mac at McDonald’s and order a McDouble instead, you’ll lose the fancy seeded bun and “special sauce,” but get the same amount of hamburger for less money. Burger King tends to have more special offers than McDonald’s, and if you order a Whopper Junior instead of the oversized Whopper, you’ll avoid both overeating and overpaying.

Drinks are oversized and a big money-maker for most fast food franchises, so buy the smallest size you can get, or better still do drive-up and have your own drink ready in the car or at home…

I used to love the occasional trip to Red Lobster but the last time we went it set everyone back by a pretty penny, so no more. When I heard they are filing for bankruptcy then the high prices made sense - company in free-fall.

Fast food is still very popular in my area. When I used to eat McDonald's food occasionally I noticed I'd get hungry again within 2 hours of eating, so I do not know how they formulate that food, but I think it probably is truly addictive in some way.

One effective way to save money on fast food is to order using the apps. The Subway app lets you earn points with every order and after enough are accumulated, they can be used as cash.

Also helps to look for coupon codes, often shared in public on Reddit, to use with the app order.

I'll still go to Wendy's for a baked potato. And at In-N-Out I can still get a veggie "burger" for less that $3. Order it with extra tomato. It's just a tomato and lettuce sandwich, but it's a much healthier snack than a side of french fries.

Next question: why are eggs back up to $4.60 a dozen? I'm going to have to only buy them at the big box store from now on.

I mentioned on the other day the cinnamon bun on the Wendy's commercial looked good. He stopped in this morning & got me one. It looked better than what it tasted. Even though it was still warm, it was very dry. His said his sausage biscuit wasn't very good either. Now I know why it's been years that we've ate at Wendy's.

On Google Maps, when click on our Wendy's here, this is a picture that comes up.
Honestly, there are 196 pictures that come up and this is the only terrible one.
However comma on the Google Maps rating, our Wendy's is rated 3.3 of 5
Sometimes I wonder if other fast food places plant terrible pictures and awful ratings though.
Dunno ... but I can't remember the last time I ate fast food anyway ... wasn't at Wendy's ;)

I worked at a McDonald's during college back in the early 70s and am here to tell you the back room NEVER looked like this. Pretty sure McD's still don't.

Our McD's was immaculate from the parking lot to the freezers. If you had time to lean you had time to clean.

It has been about a month since my last cup of coffee. I miss it but it is important to keep the acid at bay right now. After an appointment this afternoon I decided to treat myself to one scoop of Jamocha ice cream at Baskin and Robbins. I got 26 cents back from a five. I guess it has been a few years since my last visit.
